The glitz and glamour of the Star and the life of being a Cowboy can quickly influence a professional football player that their brand and their agenda is all that really matters. If that happens too often, then we are sitting here every year wondering why the team’s final product never seems to add up to the sum of its parts, let alone exceed it.
This is a fundamental problem of the organization that Jimmy Johnson pointed out.

The only way this mentality is corrected is with a head coach who's empowered to crack the whip and with Jerry taking a huge step back.

So in other words, it ain't changing.

Bill Parcells tried and failed to boot Stephen Jones out of team workout sessions.

They are annoyingly paranoid and curious shit stains

Honest question on this one. Is it really that unusual for say a GM to sit in on a meeting to see what's going on? Seems like it would be important to be able to grade a coaching staff on how well they are doing.
I assume it's unusual otherwise all these writers with over 20 years covering NFL teams wouldn't highlight it as if it were highly unusual.

When I've watched episodes of Hard Knocks over the years I don't recall seeing GMs sitting in on position group meetings and such.

I think the front office types usually grade the coaching staff on what they're seeing on the practice fields.

Maybe Parcells was the paranoid one. What would be wrong or inappropriate about Stephen Jones viewing a workout session.

I I were in a situation I thought was so deplorable as that then I would leave. I’m just old fashioned enough to believe a business owner has every right to run the place any way he wants. I may not like it but I doubt me being upset would have much leverage on an owner.
You're absolutely right. A business owner (Jerry) has every right to run the business as they see fit. However, smart business owners follow the business model of successful organizations within their industry.

If your goal was to create a successful global telecommunications company you'd be smart to follow AT&T and Verizon's business model. Jerry Jones is one of the few dumb asses out there who would follow the Boost Mobile or Cricket Wireless business models instead.

This is why Cowboys fans should stop buying the bullshit he tries to sell every year about how badly he wants to win.

I could see a problem with it when you're trying to change the culture. Pre and post-Parcells the culture was you could always go around the HC and go directly to the front office with your concerns. Because they knew Uncle Jerry was really the one running the show.

Parcells was possibly trying to create an environment where everything stopped with him and send a message that what he says goes. An environment like that is sorely needed in Dallas. And knowing how you're big on players getting fat and lazy once they're paid, I would assume you would be on board with Parcells style as well. Because lets face it, most players aren't self-motivated. There has to be a healthy dose of fear instilled in them otherwise they'll simply go through the motions. Fear is absolutely a performance motivator.

There is absolutely no fear of failure in Dallas. Players can under-perform week after week and nothing happens to them.

Landry got pissed when Clint Murchison watched a practice once. Some people don't like being micro-managed.

Well I think it's viewed as unusual because he is the owner. But maybe GMs don't keep that close of eye on whats going on. It's why I asked, I have no real idea.

I agree some may not like for anyone to look over their shoulder but whether a supervisor, manager, president or owner, these folks can and will step into the picture from time to time. It’s part of their job and responsibility to do so.

Urban: I need you to stop doing post-game interviews.

Jerry: No.

Urban: I need you to stop giving mid-week injury reports.

Jerry: No.

Urban: I need you to stop doing radio shows.

Jerry: No.

Urban: I need you to stop attending practices.

Jerry: No.

Urban: When do I start?

I don’t think anyone disagrees that you should be able to run your business the way you want to. But 25 years of mediocrity and failure should generate self reflection and a commitment to change, and it’s obviously never going to happen. So in that respect Jerry is a massive failure and always will be. But he got his monument to himself. It’s got a big screen TV. Pretty cool I guess.

Years ago I was given tickets to a game there and when they put Jerry on the big screen, he was booed in masse and they had to remove him immediately from the screen, I hope that never changes.

its hilariously delicious that he cant even show his sorry face on his stupid big screen

Small victories I know, but I'll take what I can get

Are you saying that by the higher ups viewing a practice session it inhibited Parcells from properly instilling a fear factor in the team? Really? Parcells?
