People are going off things Smith HAS accomplished in the past. You are going off wishes and hopes for Garrett. Certainly not anything he has already shown. Big difference.Well just as soon as everyone else says that there is no possible way for them to know that Garrett ISN'T better than Lovie Smith, I'll do the same. They don't know it any more certainly than I do yet they seem to be saying things in absolutes.
I actually like Garrett. And I do think he could be a good coach. But watching people anoint him already, and make excuses for him is funny. Normally smart people lose any common sense they have when trying to defend him.Garrett is very intelligent. That's not the question at all. I think his problem is that he's too rigid and he lacks creativity… He's more of a methodical coach. Making adjustments is not his strength either. Having said all that I'm quite certain that if given a real offensive line his the type of coaching can succeed.
I would say that in terms of game day coaching and game planning he is equal to Parcells. Parcells was not an elite game day coach in my opinion. His strength was more on building a team as a whole. He was a master at that. Sure Garrett is not elite but neither is anyone else that Jerry is going to bring it.
I think that's pretty much exactly what I have said multiple times now. I agree his flaw is that he can't adjust his gameplan in a way to make it work with this personnel. But that is the case for 4/5ths of the coaches in this league.Garrett is very intelligent. That's not the question at all. I think his problem is that he's too rigid and he lacks creativity… He's more of a methodical coach. Making adjustments is not his strength either. Having said all that I'm quite certain that if given a real offensive line his the type of coaching can succeed.
Well he'll always be pass happy. But back in 2007 it was simply pass-heavy, not pass-exclusive. There is nothing wrong with pass heavy if it's working and you have some balance with the run.But like I said, it wasn't just the last year or two that he went pass happy.
But I'm not saying that Garrett should be considered equal to Smith in past accomplishments.People are going off things Smith HAS accomplished in the past. You are going off wishes and hopes for Garrett. Certainly not anything he has already shown. Big difference.
All your bitching about our offensive line making it possible to win in this league and Lovie has proven he can do it with basically no offense at all. Not saying I want Lovie, but if there is anyone that can deal with our team's retarded concept of talent on offense, it is a dude that builds defense that can carry franchises. And frankly.... I don't particularly think he did any kind of masterful job in 2006 to begin with, I think the Bears D just got hot and they rode that to a playoff win streak. I mean, better than we've seen around here, but not exactly the model I want to build after.
They aren't dismissed. He hasn't done anything in 6 years. It's funny how Smitty dismisses Lovie Smith's actual accomplishments in favor of the "feel" he has for Jason Garrett. Going with your gut over actual evidence is how Jerry operates and it's why he makes poor coaching hires like Jason Garrett, Wade Phillips, and Dave Campo.
He hasn't done that though. The Bears have gone to the playoffs once in 6 years. That defense is not "carrying" that franchise anywhere. All your bitching about our offensive line making it possible to win in this league and Lovie has proven he can do it with basically no offense at all. Not saying I want Lovie, but if there is anyone that can deal with our team's retarded concept of talent on offense, it is a dude that builds defense that can carry franchises.
