Steelers release Blount

In a move that perhaps should have come in the aftermath of a preseason Cheech & Chong escapade, the Steelers have dumped running back LeGarrette Blount.

The team announced the move on Tuesday.

Blount, who signed a two-year deal as a free agent after a strong playoff performance with the Patriots, reportedly left the playing area in Tennessee last night before the game against the Titans ended. Starter Le’Veon Bell (who was the other half of the alleged preseason pot-smoking Pittsburgh duo) gained more than 200 yards on the night; Blount gained none.

Eight weeks ago, Blount had 113 yards in a prime-time win over the Panthers. Per Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Blount had been an “internal problem” over the past month, and Blount had been “dragging down” Bell.

Blount will now be eligible for waivers. Maybe the Browns will claim Blount and the Steelers will claim Ben Tate, who was waived by Cleveland after complaining about his role.

Or maybe the Colts will claim Blount, who ran roughshod over Indy during the 2013 postseason, with 166 yards and four touchdowns in a divisional-round game.

Either way, the appropriate response for Bell whenever someone raps on the door will be, “LeGarrette’s not here.”

No thanks...unless we want Murray to fire it up with him like Bell did.

I would like to see us add him. He would probably do well for 5-10 carries per game to spell Murray. Behind our line, he could excel. He might get along with Bryant, McClain and the other potentially-violent, insane headcases we have on our team. It's worth a shot.

I'd rather have Randle over him.

Steelers promote Josh Harris after releasing Blount

Posted by Josh Alper on November 18, 2014, 3:46 PM EST

The Steelers have filled the roster spot once occupied by LeGarrette Blount with a running back plucked from their practice squad.

The team announced that they have promoted Josh Harris to the 53-man roster for the first time in his professional career.

Harris signed with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent this year after completing his career at Wake Forest. Harris ran the ball eight times for 41 yards and had three catches for 12 yards in the preseason.

Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the team has no plans to add another veteran running back from outside the organization, leaving Harris and Dri Archer as the backups to Le’Veon Bell in the backfield. Bell looked just fine carrying a heavy workload on Monday night, but any injury would leave the Steelers thin on experienced help for their running game.

Pouncey: LeGarrette Blount's release a 'blessing'

By Conor Orr
Around The NFL Writer

There's a good chance we might hear more tales of LeGarrette Blount's insubordination in the coming weeks.

The former Steelers running back, who was released following a moment Monday when he reportedly walked off the field before the game was over, didn't make many friends during his brief tenure in Pittsburgh.

Team captain Maurkice Pouncey called the decision "a blessing in disguise" on Tuesday.

"You know what, man, we have a good team," Pouncey said, via The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "If you don't want to be here, don't be here. At the end of the day, you have your decision to make as a man, and he made it."

The biggest concern for Pittsburgh might have been Blount's relationship with star second-year back Le'Veon Bell. The Post-Gazette reported that some were concerned Blount was corrupting the promising feature back.

Now, though, they will work to find someone to supplement Blount in that backup role. Someone whom they know will remain on the field for all four quarters.

I can't imagine why anyone would want us to sign this dude. He clearly is a cancer. With his talent and value you'd think a team like Pittsburg would want to keep him. The release is very telling of what kind of a person he is.

Calvin Hill will turn him around.

Call in Deion to be a father figure, too, and take Blount on fishing trips.

Sounds like something the Bobert would say.

He signed with the Pats.
Good place for him and they need the depth. I wonder what the end result was of him and Bell having that pot charge against them though?
