"The NTSB has confirmed these are the names of the pilots..."

Well, that makes you call into question whenever a news station says it confirmed something. Confirmed from.... the internet?

It's funny how media is so desperate to break stories that they will roll with pretty much anything without verifying it.

This one can't be chalked up to an overzealous media. I mean, those names would have been spotted by a 10 year old. Whomever is in charge of even typing that shit into whatever to get it on the screen should be fired.

I saw this through another youtube posting. This comment pretty well sums it up:

Bang Ding Ow could fool some retard....maybe. Some Ting Wong...if you were not looking close enough perhaps. But Ho Lee Fuk...really?

At first I was like there was no way someone got duped that bad and it was just an impressive troll hoax of a prank.

As an aside, anytime news fails are brought up I think of this

:lol At least the anchor caught it. This dumb broad in SF even went out of her way to pronounce the name as "FOOK".

That just means the epic trolls behind this were pretty convincing. This is Director Tom Jones of the NTSB in Washington...we are confirming the names, okay?

Terrible NTSB Intern Blamed for KTVU's “Ho Lee Fuk” Blunder

The National Transportation Safety Board issued a press release this evening acknowledging that an NTSB intern had erroneously confirmed four fake Asiana pilot names to Bay Area TV station KTVU. The release corroborates KTVU's claims that an NTSB official had confirmed that "Ho Lee Fuk" and "Sum Ting Wong," among others, had been manning Asiana flight 214, which crashed near San Francisco on Saturday.

The National Transportation Safety Board apologizes for inaccurate and offensive names that were mistakenly confirmed as those of the pilots of Asiana flight 214, which crashed at San Francisco International Airport on July 6.

Earlier today, in response to an inquiry from a media outlet, a summer intern acted outside the scope of his authority when he erroneously confirmed the names of the flight crew on the aircraft.

The NTSB does not release or confirm the names of crewmembers or people involved in transportation accidents to the media. We work hard to ensure that only appropriate factual information regarding an investigation is released and deeply regret today's incident.

Appropriate actions will be taken to ensure that such a serious error is not repeated.
