BY EVA RUTH MORAVEC : DECEMBER 20, 2013 : Updated: December 20, 2013 5:17pm
SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Police Officer Robert Deckard, who was shot in the head nearly two weeks ago while pursuing armed robbery suspects, died Friday morning at San Antonio Military Medical Center.
Deckard, a father of two and seven-year veteran of the force, was 31.
The officer had been in the intensive care unit since the Dec. 8 shooting with a bullet lodged in his brain. He was pronounced dead at 9:53 a.m., after fighting a “brave battle,” the San Antonio Police Department said in a statement.
“Again, they (Deckard's family) appreciate all the prayers and support they have received over the past several days,” Police Chief William McManus said in the statement. “Thank you for all the support you have shown Bobby and his family.”
