Reading up on the rabbit hole a little he seems to have had some mental issues (maybe CTE?) or addiction issues or both. Complete speculation on my part.
Some of his alleged final messages seem pretty unhinged.

Might be a Demaryius Thomas situation, might not. Sometimes families scream "CTE!" because they're looking for a payday.

Any time you're talking about a RB who ran with a lot of physicality, my mind always jumps to CTE. It's just such a brutal game for that position.
