2018 did not go as planned for All-Pro center Travis Frederick. Just a few weeks before the start of the regular season, Frederick was being held out of training camp practices due to at the time what was being called “stingers” or “back spasms”. Little did he, or the team, know that they had a much more serious issue on their hands.

In August, Frederick was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, a disorder in which the immune system attacks the body’s nervous system in response to illness. Both the Cowboys and Frederick were holding out hope that he would be able to return to the field in 2018, but unfortunately that was not the case, and he was placed on IR in October. Three months after being placed on injured reserve, reports are coming out that Travis Frederick is on track to rejoin the team in 2019.

Travis Frederick underwent labrum surgery last week. It's a positive sign in his development that he will return for the 2019 season. Most of the issues he had have subsided or gone away.

Additionally, Jason Garrett noted in his press conference today that he thought Frederick would be ready to go in 2019.

The Cowboys offensive line certainly had its struggles in 2018, and even with backup center Joe Looney playing at such a high-level, getting Frederick back will give this offense a huge boost. Frederick is both a vocal and physical leader on the field and in the locker room, and was greatly missed in both the running and passing game in 2018. Travis Frederick is one of the best players at his respected position in the NFL, and getting a player back of his caliber on an offense that was ranked 22nd in yards per game and 22nd in points per game will be huge for the offense in 2019.

Yes, I think he is physically all there at this point. It's just a matter of getting his conditioning back up to par. I think he has already said he could play today but that he would probably only last a few plays because of his conditioning.
