Not political, but just in case you want to feel dumb, more Chris Langan.

After watching a chunk of the Knowles interview, I think Langan comes across as pretty smart but even though I'm enjoying the interview I'm having trouble believing he has a 200 IQ.

I will put this here even though I kind of hate to because it will get buried. I really wish we had a "Documentary Thread"... don't know if it's really for the movie thread since this is so heavy.

But I just finished this series... maybe as sad and depressing a documentary series as I've ever seen. The horrors in here are truly incomprehensible to anyone with a soul. But on the other hand, it makes me grateful for all of us that we've grown up in a free country and have never been subjected to the hell these people had to experience.

If you only wanted to watch one, I'd say the third one, but really everyone (in this country -- no, the world) should see all three.

Would you say this is appropriate for an 11 year old?

I've already been teaching my kid about how bad communism is but there's always room to reiterate the point.

Great question. I'm probably not the best judge of that, honestly. I would say that would be right around the borderline? Or maybe a year or two too young IMO.

But it's not violent, and there are some scenes in part two when the Soviets mass slaughtered Poles where the entire screen is censored by Youtube. (There were some people complaining about that in the comments.) But it's mostly just discussion and interviews along with great footage that I never knew existed. There are some parts in Part 3 about the sexual abuse of the women in the camps, but that's probably the most objectionable part I can think of, and even that isn't graphic or R-rated.

The subject matter itself might be a little depressing for an 11-year old, though. At least, that's what I would worry about. Maybe a child shouldn't even know yet that human beings can be so cruel and horrible.
