NFL players rank Dak Prescott one of league's top 5 QBs, Tyron Smith game's top offensive lineman

Seven Dallas Cowboys made NFL Network's Top 100 Players list of 2017.

Numbers five and six were revealed Monday night as the list covered spots 11-20.

Dak Prescott was voted No. 14 overall by his peers. Tyron Smith came in at No. 18.

Travis Frederick (No. 87), Sean Lee (No. 79), Dez Bryant (No. 60) and Zack Martin (No. 58) have been revealed in previous shows.

Not only did Prescott come in among the top 20, he was the fifth overall quarterback on the list, putting him ahead of Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger, Russell Wilson, Matthew Stafford and Cam Newton. To give you an idea of how much the list changes from year to year, Newton was ranked No. 1 overall a year ago. This year: 44.

The only quarterbacks ahead of Prescott: Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Matt Ryan and Derek Carr.

Some have been critical of the ranking in the past, wondering if players actually vote. Near the end of last season, I witnessed multiple Cowboys filling out a Top 100 ballot for this particular ranking.

One of the best parts of the individual video segments is hearing the audio from players mic'd up during the season.

Here are a couple highlights that made Prescott's clip.

Jason Witten yelling at the coaching staff during the Pittsburgh game: "They don't have anybody to match No. 4! They don't have anybody!"

Dez Bryant talking to the cameras on the sideline: "That motherf------ Dak, boy, he's deadly now."

Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins also provided some praise.

"Where I look back to when I was a rookie and if I had to play for the entire season where I would have been, it's that much more impressive," the former fourth-round pick said. "He's doing it all. He's throwing the ball down the field, he's throwing with accuracy."

Cousins then pointed out two plays Prescott made during the Cowboys' 31-26 Thanksgiving Day win over Washington. Both occurred with Prescott rolling to his right. The first, a second-quarter touchdown pass to Terrance Williams, who dragged his toes inside the pylon. The second, a pass to Dez Bryant on third and nine late in the fourth quarter. The completion got the Cowboys to Washington's 1-yard line, setting up a short up Ezekiel Elliott TD run.

"Both throws were small windows in terms of accuracy and required a great deal of arm strength," Cousins said. "Those are high level of difficulty throws and he made them both."

Tyron Smith made the top 100 for the fourth consecutive season. He came in at No. 18, his highest ranking, and the highest-ranking given to an offensive lineman this year.

"Tyron, sometimes he forgets his strength," Ezekiel Elliott said. "You know you got that one friend that you just can't play fight with because he's going to hurt you. I couldn't even imagine that punch on game day."

Prescott: "To me, he's the best in the game at left tackle. He's just a guy you really don't want to see, in my eyes."

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Pro Bowl defensive tackle Gerald McCoy: "I don't even think he's a person. He might be some sort of mutant or metahuman or demigod or something. Ain't no way you look like that and play like that."

Los Angeles Rams Pro Bowl offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth: "Every tackle in the league wishes they had that body. It's just not fair. He's built in a way that's ... man."

Elliott is expected to be among the top 10 players revealed next week.

Where does Prescott think he and Elliott belong on the list?

"I'll give Zeke top 3," he said. "Me, it's just cool to be on there."

I'd take Prescott over Carr but I think if I had one game to win tomorrow I'd go with Brees over Prescott, perhaps Roethlisberger as well.

If Prescott can duplicate last seasons performance that will validate him as one of the top performers in the NFL.

I don't take Prescott over any of them but Carr at this point. Dak was relatively unpressured last year, both vs actual pressure and in being able to hand the ball to the games best runner.

As it stands right now, I would not give up Dak for anyone. All things considered, he is our best longterm bet.

One game or one season vs. long term are very different things. If I was starting a franchise today I don't think there's anybody that I'd clearly take over Prescott, there'd only be a few even in consideration.

We'll know more after this season, but having an elite QB on a mid round rookie contract is pretty much the best asset you can have in the NFL.

The hard thing with Brees is that he just hasn't won games lately. They haven't had a winning record since 2013. His career win percentage is only like .564. It's hard to over look that even though this is a team sport.

I think I'd actually take Roethlisberger over Brees just because of his ability to win in the clutch. Of course that's probably why Dak is ranked so highly. His ability to come up big in the clutch and always find a way to keep games close is why he won so much.

Yep, that makes for a big advantage over other NFL teams.

Dak brought us back from behind a few times this year. This guy has shown me nothing to make me think I should take someone else over him. Nothing.

This play is one that clearly demonstrates that Dak can make just about any throw. I mean, this throw is dead on, in traffic, right at the sideline. Perfectly thrown.

He is legit, man. And, once he shows it again this year, there will finally be no debating it.

I don't want to take anyone over Dak right now for this team but it would be an interesting argument if one of those QBs would play behind this line next year, who would be best. So which of them is the most cool headed and accurate passer>

The premise was a QB to win you one game, not build a franchise around.

Of of course Dak is irreplaceable in that regard, though a couple of Super Bowl victories behind Aaron Rodgers wouldn't exactly suck either, even though he has a lot less time than Dak.
