I think Kinsler is really in decline. Not saying he's totally washed up or that he won't help Detroit, because he will, but this is a big win for Texas IMO.With 30m back, I don't see how it's a win for Detroit. The Rangers are easily on the better side of this trade.
Oh, I agree with you. The deal made sense for sure. I'd just be a bit concerned about what I'm going to get out of Kinsler going forward if I'm the Tigers. He's been 30/30 a couple times but his numbers haven't been great the past couple of seasons and he's 31. On the other hand the Rangers have to hope that a really fat guy can still be good in his 30s. I think he will be for a few more years but it remains to be seen. The Tigers top prospect, Castellanos, plays 3B...so now he can play there. Als, even giving up the.30 mil they save almost 80 mil...so the Rangers did not hoodwink them financially either. That money can now be rolled over into an extension for Scherzer. You need to look at it for more than the players involved. That is why I think it is good for both.
Definitely has the potential to pay big dividends. What a ridiculously stupid deal for Detroit.
On the plus side, Fielders fantasy value just sky rocketed.
I'd be excited if I was a Rangers fan...his numbers have gone down the last two years though, so hopefully that is not a trend.Oh, I agree with you. The deal made sense for sure. Not sure they are going to move Moreland. We do have a DH spot to feel and they may keep Moreland primarily at first for the better defense.Yep, and now the Rangers can play Profar more. It frees up our middle infield more to play our best prospect in years. Plus, we can move Moreland now.
Yeah, I would be fine with that. Fielder at DH the majority of the time and Moreland at first. I like Moreland. When he gets hot he is amazing. Not sure they are going to move Moreland. We do have a DH spot to feel and they may keep Moreland primarily at first for the better defense.
That was from Rangers beat writer Evan Grant.Yeah, I would be fine with that. Fielder at DH the majority of the time and Moreland at first. I like Moreland. When he gets hot he is amazing.
Maybe left. That was from Rangers beat writer Evan Grant.
JD says something different, though. He said basically that Moreland will have to find a new position but he is still in the Rangers plans. Guess out to the outfield?
Yep. It's the sort of deal the Phillies should be doing but are too stupid to do.It is good for both I think. Win/win.
And Fielder is not?I think Kinsler is really in decline. Not saying he's totally washed up or that he won't help Detroit, because he will, but this is a big win for Texas IMO.
Yeah, in another post I mentioned the Texas also has risk of having taken on a player in decline, partly because of his build. I think hitting in Arlington is really going to give his power numbers a boost though and I don't think his decline is necessarily locked into a steep downward slope. I have a bit more confidence in him having a few more highly productive years. .280/35/110 is very reasonable, IMO. He doesn't miss games either. Kinsler has missed large chunks of time in different seasons and he's a corner infielder so age/decline is a bigger deal defensively than it is for a corner infielder like Prince. And Fielder is not?
OPS
2011 .981
2012 .940
2013 .819
Plus, he's a .194 hitter in the playoffs with an OPS of .620. He's a good hitter, but an over rated one in decline. Guys with those body types don't do well as they get on towards their mid-30's. He only turns 30 next year so you may get a couple good years out of him in that ballpark.
Playing in Texas will help (but he did hit 13 HR's at Comerica and 12 HR's on the road so you can't really blame the ballpark last year), but this guy is getting old fast. Good that their getting 30 million because Fielder at 24 million per is too much for what you will get the next 7 years. Now you get him at 20 million and with Texas getting their new TC deal even if Fielder doesn't live up to that they don't have to worry too much about it.
All that being said it is a better deal for Texas, ha.
