I've heard the Rangers as one of the many teams interested in Garza. The NL West teams all seem to be showing strong interest but, like I said, just about every team that has any realistic shot at making the playoffs has come up in one article or another. The best hope for the Cubs is that someone gets desperate an overpays a bit. It would be nice to get a package of prospects comparable to what the Cubs sent to Tampa for Garza initially. Personally I don't think that is too far-fetched but that's partly because I'm not a big believer in any of the guys they sent over for him.I don't know about Feldman but seems like every year they inquire about Garza. Might be worth watching.
We can give you Soto back......I've heard the Rangers as one of the many teams interested in Garza. That's your mistake. Hak-Ju is a flat out stud and worth more than Garza alone. Archer has has his moments as well and Fuld is a part time contributor.I've heard the Rangers as one of the many teams interested in Garza. I doubt that very strongly. Either that or we have differing opinions on a what a "flat out stud" is. Excellent defense, pretty good speed, probably a pretty good batting average, little else. Lots of middle infielders who fit that description. Definitely value in a player like him, assuming he pans out, but I don't see anything about the guy's profile that suggests he's going to be a special player. That's your mistake. I just don't think Archer is ever going to have the kind of control necessary to really thrive in a rotation. Puts too many guys on base. He might iron things out in that regard but it has been a problem his entire career to this point. Fuld...yeah, decent role player who made an initial splash.Archer has has his moments as well and Fuld is a part time contributor.
I think it's possible they do give him an extension but I think this is probably more of a ploy to get teams to up the ante for him. They definitely aren't getting the kinds of offers that they want for him so far and they aren't a no-budget small market team that has to trade him because they're incapable of extending him. I agree with this approach. Don't sell him low because it isn't really necessary. I do believe it is their strong preference though so we'll see what happens as teams start to get desperate near the trade deadline. He's pretty clearly the best starting pitcher available at this point.Garza, Cubs talk extension
For the first time in more than a year, the Cubs are having discussions with Matt Garza about a long-term extension, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. A trade remains possible for the 29-year-old, who is perhaps the best available starter. A similar report comes from Jesse Rogers of ESPNChicago.com, whose source says the sides haven't had serious discussions about a long-term deal but haven't ruled it out.

Guess the cubs are asking too much...
OK.. we will add Chirinos along with Soto so you can have both your catchers back.I think it's possible they do give him an extension but I think this is probably more of a ploy to get teams to up the ante for him. I was at that game last night. Couldn't resist the draw of Manny, even 41 year old disgraced Manny. It's only $7 for a lawn ticket and I like that ballpark so I figured what the hell.ROUND ROCK, Texas -- If Mike Olt comes up to the big leagues and helps the Rangers later this season, Manny Ramirez might deserve a small portion of the credit.
Ramirez, with Triple-A Round Rock attempting a comeback of his own, noticed a flaw in Olt's swing in the past few days. Olt, the Rangers' top hitting prospect in the minors, made an adjustment and had a 2-for-3 night with two of the hardest-hit balls in Sunday night's 4-0 victory over Omaha.
Olt was in a 1-for-22 slump before Sunday night's one-game turnaround, that after being on a home run tear since returning from the disabled list with vision issues.
Ramirez has a reputation for being religious about studying video, so Olt asked him to watch some clips of his swing.
"He saw that I was late and dropping my hands," said Olt, who made his debut with the Rangers last season, playing in 16 games. "We went to the cages and I worked with him."

yeah. That vision problem killed his numbers for sure. They really didnt know what was going on so he was battling with it longer than he should have. He suffered a concussion in winter ball that I think had something to do with it.I was at that game last night. Couldn't resist the draw of Manny, even 41 year old disgraced Manny. Olt looked good but his numbers have been horrid so far this season, especially for the PCL. Supposedly had a vision problem earlier in the year so we'll see how it goes the rest of the season.
What else are you expecting from a SS? He's not a 5 tool player, but he has the skill to be a perennial all star.I doubt that very strongly. Time will tell, but at this point I'm not fretting over what the Cubs gave up. They'll either get a comparable package for Garza or they'll lock him up long-term (I still think he gets traded).
I don't expect much else from a SS, I just don't label the kind of player he projects to be as a "flat out stud", that's all. Or a perennial all star for that matter. It's a lot more difficult for a player with his skill set to make all star teams these days because he isn't going to hit for any power at all. Even SS and 2B are hitting for power when you're talking about the elite players at the positions. What else are you expecting from a SS? He's not a 5 tool player, but he has the skill to be a perennial all star.
BJ is doing what lots of Rays fans feared when discussing whether to resign him. He got his fat deal, time to coast..178 .269 .305
Yikes, I've been saying for years BJ Upton is the most overrated player in baseball.
While his brother is better, he's not as good as everyone thinks either.
