I don't think it's outlandish, making a splashy move like that is basically the best thing Jerry can do to try to get credit for something once he's gone. Nothing Jerry does is logical but I wouldn't rule it out, especially if we end up in the top 10 or so either next year or the year after.

Exactly.

That DT has been a consistent probowl player-- wayyy better than anything we've come close to fielding in the middle.

Of course we match up better vs Philly's offense than we did before.

Biggest unknown for us is how we're going to run the football on offense. We have no RB's... again! Unbelievable.

You are too hung up on the players head to head itself vs the net result, and you are seemingly ignoring the draft picks for I don't know what reason.

Dallas improved vs the run, without a doubt. This likely also improves both LB and safety play overall, and without a doubt helps Osa and whoever's playing RDE pressure from the middle and the QB's blindside respectively.

Green Bay is now better defending the pass, but has compromised their run defense back to where we were before.

When you are facing Green Bay, SF, Detroit, Tampa, or Philly you must stop the run first and foremost and force Love, Purdy, Goff, Mayfield, and Hurts to beat you.

Otherwise Jacobs, McCaffrey, Gibbs, Irving, and Barkley are going to have field days and put you back on roller-skates guessing run or pass.

As the 2023 playoffs proved, Micah Parsons is completely useless in that situation.

Clark helps prevent that situation more than Micah Parsons did and could. And we also get two first round picks.

The thing that nobody talks about is the fact that we've spent 2nd round picks on edge rushers in the last two drafts, and both guys were considered possible late 1 types, Ezeiruaku more than Kneeland although plenty of people had Kneeland on the 1/2 borderline. It's one of the reasons I was fine moving Parsons, especially because I didn't love the idea of having so many undersized edge rushers in him, Ezeiruaku and Fowler.

Obviously it's nice to really build a potentially overwhelming strength with a group like your pass rush when you have a special piece like Parsons, but most teams around the league would look at an edge group consisting of two recent 2nd round picks, plus a guy like Fowler who is a consistent 6ish sack vet type, plus a former 2nd rounder in Williams, and say "yea I think this will be fine".

There's risk of course with guys not developing, not having any bona fide Pro Bowl talents, but every team across the league takes risks like that every season.

It's just that we had a special young player in Parsons so our perspective is a bit skewed, although the fact that we were so porous on the interior DL obviously watered down the impact in bigger games against better teams.

Why do we have problems finding these guys? We can’t scout them and we certainly can’t draft them. The best we seem to be able to do is JAGs like Maliek Collins or Gallimore and Bohanna who are out of the league (though Bohanna only just got cut).

Admittedly, Clark was a 1st round pick, so it’s not like players with his skill set are growing on trees, but in 25 years we’ve stunk at it without Bill Parcells, and even he blew his eval of Marcus Spears. He found Chris Canty, Jay Ratliff, and Jason Hatcher though

I actually just watched the all-22 of this game and came here to post about it because of how shockingly good he looked.

Last night I watched the Rams game, first Detroit game, Minnesota and Philadelphia in the playoffs. I already mentioned that I thought he was really good in the playoff game, in the others he was solid but not spectacular, so I was surprised that he looked even better in that second Lions game where he had several clean wins on Ragnow as seen in those clips.

There were also several plays that didn't get posted here where Clark took on a double team against their RG and Sewell, on one he split it and got Sewell called for a holding and on another he shed Sewell to stop a run for little gain near the goal line. What he did in the run game in that one qualifies as a "game wrecker" in my opinion, and against one of the best, most physical OL's in the league.

Overall I think he started to look better as the year went on and the further away he got from the foot injury he had in the opener. You saw more examples of the burst off the snap starting to come back as the year went on, plus the two most impressive performances that I saw came late in the year in those two games compared to some of the others in the October/November timeframe.

I have no idea if he'll ever play as well as he did in 2023 just because of his age, particularly in terms of getting upfield rushing the passer, but I feel very confident in saying that the guy isn't washed. He should be a good starter for us for the 3 years left on his current deal, and maybe even an extra year or two past that.
