These idiots panicked and made an emotional deal too quickly, there's no chance this is the best they could've gotten.

Unreal.
Exactly, did we even shop his ass around at all? It's not like Parson's got to negotiate the contract before the compensation was agreed to. Just ignorant as fuck. God I hate Jerry.

What are the chances that part of the reason they did this is because Clark's deal neatly fits in to the ~$21M that Parsons was owed this year, with an easy escape hatch in 2026 or 2027?

Clark's cap number falls to roughly to roughly $20.4 million in 2025 but then balloons to $31.4 million in 2026. In 2027, $18.3 million of Clark's $27.1 million cap number is tied up in non-guaranteed base salary.

The decision point on keeping Clark on the deal will likely arrive as soon as 2026, when he has a big roster bonus due and his cap number jumps over $30 million. In the event of a release in 2026, the Packers would save roughly $14 million on the salary cap while taking on roughly $17 million in dead cap.

In fairness, I doubt there were many teams willing to pay 47 mil per year. That's crazy. He's not 7 mil per year better than Myles Garrett.

It’s absurd all the way around. What a kick in the nuts.

Parsons now gets to play for an organization where football is the primary focus. His odds of ending his career with as Super Bowl champion improved dramatically today.

He's the big winner in all of this.
And he gets paid insane money. Talk about wins all around for Parsons.

Yep, Jerry, you really showed Parsons you mean business.

Historically, very good, I'd have to watch all-22 from last year to see where he's at now.

If he were 27 I'd be ok with the deal, he was (is?) a Rashan Gary-level player at DT, but how much longer does he have left?

Nah. You pay top players.

Their problem is the complete opposite of paying guys too much. They're way too cheap.
The guy has been an All-Pro in 3 of his 4 seasons. He's exactly the type of player you pay early and not run through the BS.

But they do things ass backwards in Dallas. So here we are.

Sure, but this deal shouldn't be dictated by who'll pay his contract.
I agree they should have got more in the trade. If they were willing to pay that much you could really squeeze them in the compensation.

Just saying, I bet only a team or two would have paid that much. Maybe only the one.
