I like Trevor Scott...I think he would be solid.

Stephen says they like what they have over anyone else available.

When don't they?

To hear this team tell it, we have the greatest talent ever assembled and don't need to go outside for improvements.

Stephen Jones: Player To Replace Crawford “Already On Roster”
Posted 1 hour ago

Nick Eatman
DallasCowboys.com Staff Writer

OXNARD, Calif. – Cowboys VP Stephen Jones, the team’s director of player personnel, had just one word to describe Tyrone Crawford’s season-ending Achilles injury.

“Crushing,” he said Monday morning. “Absolutely crushing.”

Jones, who saw the entire injury develop Sunday evening from the makeshift training camp tower in between the two practice fields here in Oxnard, said Crawford’s versatility made him such a key asset to the team’s 4-3 scheme.

“He’s a guy that can play end and tackle,” Jones said. “It just makes you sick because we really had high hopes for him this year.”

As for a replacement, even though the Cowboys still have an open spot on the 90-man roster, Jones said it’s unlikely the team will go out and sign a player right away, at least not one of the bigger-named ends on the market such as John Abraham, Jamaal Anderson and Juqua Parker.

“The guy that will replace Crawford is already on the roster,” Jones said. “We certainly like the guys on our roster better than anyone that is out there.”

The Cowboys signed veteran Anthony Hargrove back in May but released him last month.

Behind starters DeMarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer, Crawford was slotted as the next guy at end. Now, that spot will likely revert to Kyle Wilber, who is making the transition from outside linebacker in the 3-4 scheme. Expect more from Ben Bass, who is playing more defensive tackle but has some
versatility, like Crawford, to play both spots.

Other ends on the roster include Cameron Sheffield and Monte Taylor. And perhaps, the Cowboys could use some other versatile players such as outside linebacker Alex Albright and defensive tackle Jason Hatcher to slide out to end if needed.

The only possible reason you take Kyle Wilber over John Abraham or Ben fricking Bass over Richard Seymour for 2013 is money.

One or both of those veterans would be a huge shot in the arm. Seymour would instantly solve the 1-technique questions.

The DL is beyond requiring mere churn-- it needs blatant holes fixed.

Jerry's karmic wheel strikes again. It is becoming increasingly clear, that with key injuries and a fat Romo, God himself is actively working against "the family".

Probably just pissed that they did away with the hole in the roof.

It's for the best, though. God should be resting on Sundays, not working himself into a tizzy.

Cowboys focused on young guys to fill holes on defensive line for now

With DE Tyrone Crawford out for the season with a torn achilles, defensive tackle Jay Ratliff on the physically unable to perform list because a strained hamstring and defensive Anthony Spencer day to day with a bone bruise, the Cowboys acknowledge a need for help and added numbers on the defensive line.

The Cowboys will scan the waiver wire for possible additions for depth purposes but they will look to the current players on the roster to step up and help fill the void. If they need to add a veteran like John Abraham or Richard Seymour, it will be at the end of the preseason, a source said.

"Injuries provide opportunity," coach Jason Garrett said. "We have a lot of young guys who we like. Guys we want to see more of. This gives them a chance to show us what they can do."

The Cowboys will look to guys like Cameron Sheffield to step up at end behind Spencer, DeMarcus Ware and Kyle Wilber and former Texas A&M tackle Ben Bass to fill the void inside. There is a chance Bass could get a look at end but the Cowboys are holding off on that right now.

"Right now we’re just staying where we’re at right now," defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin said. "We might do some of that, but not yet. We’ve just got to get it down. We don’t have guys playing double positions right now and stuff. Not yet."

So, we're going to fuck around and wait and Abraham is going to end up signed somewhere else. Awesome.

If I'm Abraham or Seymour I wait for a spot with a contender to open up before I come to a shoddy-run franchise like Dallas with an owner who's developed a penchant for lowballing veteran FA's in recent years.
