This is a stupid game plan. The last couple of seasons, I've cringed just about any time a defender has gotten within arm's length of Romo and I find it hard to believe that they think he's got 5 years left when we would be lucky to get two out of him.
I agree with Iamtdg, this hearkens back to the way the QB position was handled when it was clear that Troy was on the downside of his career and wouldn't be able to take the pounding much more. Romo's even a little bit older than Troy was when he went down for the last time.
Except unlike Aikman, Romo is playing at a very high level. I never saw Romo ending a season in Prime Time by taking a retard-sprint out of bounds on 4th down. An interception, sure, but not that.
Troy played at an outrageously high level for a very short time, but then he was done and hung on way too long.
Yes, two years is too far ahead to draft Romo's successor.
What's the plan, draft a QB in the 1st or 2nd when Romo will guaranteed outplay him for 2-3 seasons, then start that guy as a relative noob with 2 seasons left on his rookie contract? Good luck with that.
Or draft a QB in the 4th or later who is guaranteed to be next to ineffective as a pro (data proves this out).
The title of this article is a rim job meant to drive out the Jerry haters. When it comes to team planning, three to five doesn't mean five, it means three.
