Adams at 6 INTs a year might be worth two firsts as he'd be Brian Dawkins or Ed Reed. But at 2 career INTs, no.

Offering a Fitzpatrick type deal is fine, if the Jets wouldn't budge from asking for a Ramsey type deal/two 1's, then I'm glad they passed it up. The Jets though, for their part, are idiots. Teams become less willing to move picks the closer the draft gets so if their plan is to move him in the offseason they won't get more than what Dallas was just offering.

They may not have really wanted to move him.

To their credit, perhaps it's possible they saw Ramsey move for two firsts and a fourth, and thought to themselves, "Damn, if we can get that kind of deal, it's a Herschel Walker-like kick-start to our rebuild, we would be fools not to move Adams, but absent that he's a building block."

So they may have been willing to see if a contender would overpay, like the Rams did, but without such overpay, never really intended to move him and would still plan on re-signing him.

That's my guess. This was not a Raiders-like fire sale. As evidenced by the fact that they didn't move Bell either. They are gonna keep their good players.... they were just fishing for overpays if they would come out the clear winners in the trade.

I don't think they really want to move him though, really. You have to overpay to get a star player who is a good trooper. They just wanted us to do something stupid or they would stand pat.

Perhaps that's the case although Adams has been basically despondent all season with the losing, even getting punished with a benching at the end of the Browns game, and unless they somehow turn into a contender in the next 2 years (unlikely), I'd imagine they'll either lose him for nothing in free agency or get into a franchise tag pissing match. I get the mindset on their end but it seems like a "when" not "if" question on Adams being traded at this point.

This is pretty much what I assumed would happen. It's the result of like 95% of the trade/free agent signing rumors we hear about. "we wanted to get the deal done but the price was just too high"

Keeps everyone talking about the Cowboys. Makes fans get excited. And in the end cost the Cowboys nothing because they were never going to pay the price required. Truth be told though if the price was two first round picks than I'm glad we didn't do it. And I honestly really like Adams. I would have given up a first and fourth for the guy. It's a steep price but I think he is an elite player who could make a big difference for this defense. But the truth is we shouldn't even be in this position of desperation. We can all thank Marinelli for that.
