It's sounding like Jerry has pretty much made his mind made up and it would take a miracle Super Bowl run to save Garrett's job. If that's the case I agree with LT that it would be wise to go ahead and make the coaching move sooner rather than later. After they lose in Chicago, the coaching move should be made. Probably won't happen but it should.

Delaying the inevitable only assures that other teams will get a job on coaching and staff hires.

This is the list of teams who I think will PROBABLY be making HC changes within the coming weeks.

Carolina (already made change)
Washington (already made change)
Atlanta
NY Giants
Jacksonville
Cleveland
San Diego
Dallas

Here are a few more that are unlikely but could POSSIBLY see coaches fired.

NY Jets
Chicago
Detroit

The Cowboys need to lose out so the Eagles can win the division.

The general outlook on Garrett's future status is much more certain on his departure than I am.

I think Jerry is hoping for anything that he can latch onto and use as a reason to bring him back. As crazy as it may sound to some, I can even see the old bastard biting the bullet and bringing him back even after a 1 and done playoff appearance from an 8-8 team.

The point is, I don't want there to be any room whatsoever for this buffoon to even consider handing Garrett a new contract and the only result that I believe guarantees us of that? Losing out and missing the playoffs altogether.

This shit needs to end already.
I'm right there with you.

I literally did a fist pump when I read the news that they were retaining Maher as the kicker. Because I want that inconsistent SOB out there shanking 40 yard kicks as usual, doing his part to ensure that this team continues to lose games.

Yup.

Maher has no business being on the roster anymore, but because I want them to fail, I approve of this decision.

The funny thing is, I have only watched roughly 6 quarters of Cowboys football over the last 4 games and yet I still know how bad they've been because it's typical Garrett flaws.

I saw the 2nd half of the Vikings game, none of the Lions game, the entirety of the Patriots game, and none of the Buffalo game.

And despite having seen so little, I was able to perfectly visualize what has gone wrong simply by reading the post game reports because they are the same things we've seen a hundred times over in the Garrett era.

It seems obvious that Jones has already resigned to the idea that Garrett is in his last year with Dallas. Even if they get in the playoffs Garrett’s own style will be his demise because he can’t manage a team at that level of competition required for the playoffs.

You haven't missed anything.

Same story, different year. Just as many of us expected.

I can guarantee you that at least 4 of these 5 things happen tomorrow night.

- Garrett mismanages a 4th down decision in plus territory.
- If the Cowboys are running the ball well they won't stick with it. If they are struggling to run they'll stick with it at the worst possible time.
- Trubisky will throw for at least 300 yards and 2 TDs
- Cowboys won't pick off Trubisky
- Cowboys will lose the Special Teams "hidden yardage" battle by a wide margin.

Bonus: The Cowboys will be hit with some obscure penalty that hasn't been called since the 1982 season.

Garrett's poor coaching ability is in the spotlight more than ever so there's lots of articles and video segments both online and on TV discussing this very subject.

I saw one yesterday that mentioned how bad the Cowboys staff as a whole has always been under his watch and how in 9.5 seasons, Garrett's averages in two very important defensive rankings are awful and would be deemed unacceptable almost everywhere else.

In 9.5 seasons, the Cowboys defense have averaged rankings of 18th/19th in sacks/turnovers.

That is atrocious.

Selling your fan base on a guy like that would be a hard sell.
not with us dumbass Cowboy fans, we'll be here regardless of how much bullshit gets thrown our way, if we had any sense, we'd all walk away until jeri is forced to sell but instead the collective mindset is "well, nothing can be done so lets just keep taking it up the ass, go Cowboys!"

That doesn't make jeri a so called genius, it makes us idiots for taking it

That high? That astounds me. I would think more like high 20s in each.
Yeah, I thought it would be higher too.

2014 bailed him out in turnovers. We finished 2nd that year and that's why our defense, while not talented, was very good at closing out games compared to other years when they couldn't hold a lead to save their lives.

And in sacks, we finished top 5 in 2011.

But outside of that, we've always finished 16th or worse in both categories and in 2015, we ranked dead last in turnovers.

Those respective one-off top 5 finishes is what saved him from finishing in the 20's for both categories.

Yep, and that's exactly why I am rooting for a loss tomorrow and an Eagles win on Sunday. Let's put this shit to bed.

Again, I'm not convinced that this is the case.

Do I think he's more frustrated with the coaching than he's been in some time? Yes.

But do I think it means it's a certainty that it's a situation where Garrett has to win X amount of games in the playoffs to return? No.

Jerry loathes the idea of having to fire him and as such, he will look for any reason to keep him and I can see that reason being "Jason made the playoffs in back to back seasons when people said that he had never done it".

Even at 8-8, I can see the conman trying to sell this to the masses as sufficient reason to keep him around.

I know I've said this before, but man, I do seriously wish I had you back during the CFR days. It's like deja vu. You're saying the exact same thing I said way back then and got laughed off of many Cowboys boards because our fanbase is too fucking stupid/lazy to do what it would take.

I keep flip-flopping on whether Garrett will even get a shot somewhere else. My initial thoughts are NFL front offices are so lazy that they'll be intrigued by name familiarity and Garrett's .500+ win percentage so they'll give him another chance.

On the other had I think that name familiarity and 10-year sample size also works against Garrett. Garrett's been trashed in the national media for being nothing more than an underachieving, talent wasting, sideline clapping buffoon for a few years now. That's how he's widely viewed by NFL fans. Selling your fan base on a guy like that would be a hard sell.
And at a time where the young OC's schemes are taking off, Garrett's vanilla "philosophy" should keep him from getting an OC job.

It's either HC or nada.

Yeah, I feel the same way.

Even if the Cowboys backdoor their way in at 7-9 or 8-8, imagine they somehow get a win vs Seattle or San Francisco.

Oh boy.

Jerry will point to that and say how he was able to turn around a disappointing season and still get something out of the team when the odds we stacked against him.

Like I said, he's going to look for any reason to keep him so I want there to be no such possibility.

Lose out and there ain't shit the old bastard can use to keep him.

Jerry will not have to fire Garrett. All that is necessary on Jones part is to do nothing. Garrett’s contract will expire and then he is no longer the coach

As an aside, someone correct me if I am wrong but I believe the eagles control their own destiny. We wouldn't have to lose out, just losing to them would be enough.

FUCK THAT though.
