Yeah, okay. Because by not renewing his contract they are saying they don't want him anymore... the exact same as if they fired him.
Ok. You win, LT.
Point is...the quality of replacement coach candidates cannot be overlooked.

If neither Lincoln Riley, Urban Meyer are anyone desirable we’ve mentioned are available to Jerruh, he may just resign Garrett even if it’s a playoffs one-and-done. Maybe it’s only a one-year extension, but still.

Just cuz Garrett doesn’t get to the NFCC, doesn’t mean Jerruh will be fine to hire any Ben MacAdoofus just for the sake of cutting ties with Garrett.

NoDak is right. Think of all the players who leave in free agency, do you consider them to be "fired," of course not.

There are a lot of options out there better than Garrett. You have to try to actually find one in order to find out who is the right guy.

Eh, but the team only has so much cap room to re-sign those players, so many of them are allowed to leave as a business decision. If there was no cap, Jerry would almost never lose a player he wanted to retain in free agency.

With coaching, Jerry is not constrained financially and the only reason not to retain the coach, almost universally for him, is performance based.

There is a difference, of course, but in this particular case, it's kinda not much of a question that Garrett would sign another contract if presented.... probably wouldn't even ask for a raise. Jerry, meanwhile, if he does not offer one, well, that's basically being told to go away.

That's completely different. Player contracts and coaches contracts are not handled even remotely the same. Players test FA all the time to get the best deal possible. Rarely do you see coaches test the "FA" market to get a better contract.

That's exactly right.

without actually having to fire Garrett; path of least humiliation.
Exactly right, allows both parties to save face. And hell maybe Garrett gets a mew coaching opportunity. Frankly I think both sides know its just time to move on.

That's because rarely do teams let coaches see the end of the contract. They are almost always extended or fired. But assistant coaches do this all the time. Many times for the same job with another team.

We aren't talking about assistants.

I think the 49ers will embarrass us at home.
That’s the maddening part of this whole thing. Dallas has the talent to really beat anyone in the NFC-the D effort yesterday was outstanding and everything clicked. The big issue is I don’t believe Garrett can motivate and coach this team to 3 straight wins.

I'll also throw this in for consideration.

I don't know if it's simply because he's being asked the questions or what, but Jerry has done an awful lot of praising and commenting about coaches who are rumored to be linked to the Cowboys in 2020. He hasn't gone out of his way to shoot down those coaching rumors either.
thats because he's glad to have everyone talking about the team nonstop, good or bad, whatever the subject. The only thing that would get his attention is apathy which fans can never muster to any degree to make him sweat

2011. Anything can happen. Just need to string together 4+1 good games.
if the Cowboys were to pull off the miracle run and win the Super Bowl there would never, ever be a significant change on how jeri does things ever again and it would pretty much guarantee Garrett to be here for another 10 years (unless he retired or obscenely stunk up the place)

Fired, contract not renewed....both are the same as saying you didn’t get the job done and we don’t want you.

Randy Moss named to the NFL 100 All-Time team.

I agree with that.

Man, the NFC race for the first round bye is wild.

NO has the head-to-head tiebreaker vs Seattle so they are #1 seed. However, if it’s 3-way toe with Green Bay, then head-to-head tiebreaker is demoted and Seattle is #1 seed with NO sent to #3 and GB #2.

SF is #1 if they win both remaining games, but would be wild-card otherwise.

Did you see SF lose to Atl in waning moments? That was home field slipping away

Jerry himself said either last night or this morning that no one is pulling more than him to see Garrett turn this around and go on a fairy tale run.
That quote is a dead giveaway that he's ready to move on. Jerry has a terrible poker face. That's basically him saying Garrett is gone if there's no fairy-tale run (and your guess is as good as mine as to what would qualify as fairy-tale to him).

Crazy.

While SF, NO and Seattle getting all the attention, it's also plausible that Green Bay gets #1 seed.
