I gotta be honest.

I'd still call Amari Cooper and see if he wants a 1 year deal. Our WR depth is that fucking bad.

We won't though, because we would be unwilling to part with Turpin due to his return ability, Mingo because we spent a fourth on him, or Tolbert because we spent a third on him.

Lamb
Pickens
Cooper
Tolbert
Mingo
Turpin

Flournoy and Brooks compete for practice squad spots, but we might lose one or both, and they'd be unwilling to do that too.
I'd roll the dice because why not, but Tolbert is at least an above average WR3, maybe even a good to very good one if he's improved.

I agree, I would've much rather moved down 5ish slots and even if Booker was gone we could've gotten Zabel or Harmon, but that discounts how they stacked their specific board where they supposedly had Booker in their top 10.

But yea, if they had an inkling they were going to make a move like this you'd think they would've been a bit more aggressive in trying to add picks somewhere along the line.
That's how you really win at drafting. You get more picks. Long term you should always be trying to add future picks. But that's hard to do when your only focus is this up coming season.

At the NFL's league meetings in March, Cowboys COO/co-owner Stephen Jones made it very clear that Dallas was in the market to upgrade at wide receiver.

"We're still open to looking at a really explosive number two that could upgrade us," Jones said. "But as I said, I like our room and certainly like the players we currently have."

Lamb, Pickens and Tolbert works for me. I actually think that's a pretty damn good trio. But I've always been a fan of Pickens on the field.

Jordan Lewis is one of my favorite Cowboys from the last 20 years, but that was kinda funny. Don't get in another man's face celebrating.

You still have to wonder, why would they fuck themselves this hard. What was so bad that they actively dump him but weaken the roster?
I always think with guys like this, we only see the tip of the iceberg. No telling how many behind-the-scenes things the team keeps quiet that we never know about.

Fuck. Now I hate.
Eh. Hate is a strong word. If he works out, and we resign him it's a steal. He's 24 and vastly better than a WR we could get in the 3rd next year. If he doesn't and we let him go, I have little doubt they get at least a 4th round comp back in return. Not a huge price to pay to take a swing at a possibly good/great player.

Other teams take these chances and receive praise around here for having the guts. Having the foresight to do these trades. We do them, and they instantly get shit on. Look no further than last year at this time. There was wailing and gnashing of teeth because the team didn't do anything to try and improve. Now that they DO? More wailing and gnashing of teeth.

I mean in terms of numbers you're getting a stud 24 year old. He missed an few games last year but would have been a back to back 1000 yard receiver if he played the whole season. And when you consider the shit show playing QB that is pretty impressive. Big YPC numbers but he still catches a high percentage of balls thrown his direction.

He is a dude you put outside and leave him there. You move Ceedee around and you legit have 2 go to receivers.

Now off the field, I can't speak to what a headache he is. But unlike Mingo, this is a talented dude with legit #1 ability.

On pure talent alone Lamb/Pickens is up there with the elite duos in the league.

Probably behind Chase/Higgins, but on par with Jefferson/Addison, Brown/Smith and Hill/Waddle, so from that perspective I get the gamble.

My only issue is that they continuously end up overpaying by about a round in these deals and don't seem to be able to properly calibrate on how to value guys (i.e. the Mingo trade) relative to picks. The fact that we'll likely at least get a 4 back in 2027 helps, but it just feels like they're twisting in the wind trying to find a solution to a problem that shouldn't be that difficult to solve.

At any rate, it'll be interesting to see how they approach re-signing him, if at all. They won't admit it but we should be able to tell by their actions over the next 8-10 months whether they consciously made the deal as a pure rental or if they're actually considering extending him.

I'm sure a lot of it will hinge on his behavior but between Parsons, Bland and Tyler Smith coming up it's hard to see them handing out 20-25/year for their WR2.

If they really are considering re-signing him it'd be smart to do it now with a full year left on his rookie deal, but we know damn good and well that's not how this team rolls, and ultimately it'd be a pretty big risk given his antics unless he took a discount (which he won't).

I really wish this was the plan. Have a 4 year deal in place when trading a third round pick for the guy. But it will never happen that way. Maybe actually get ahead of these contracts.
