That article you posted yesterday about the 30% stuff pretty much explains why we couldn't have earlier.
Yeah, but there are ways around that, and IIRC the new CBA eliminates the 30% rule? I could be wrong there.

Who do you replace Cobb with now?

9mil per is not what I’d want to pay, so I’m not upset he left, but we could use a slot guy now in the worst way.

Yeah. But until it did, the rule was still there. Which made things difficult. Which explains why they were waiting to do the contracts. Which makes people's crying about like they had a clue about what was going on even funnier.

Cooper can play in the slot perfectly fine so this idea that we'd only take a slot-type in Ruggs and not a superior prospect in Lamb or Jeudy would only come from some fuckboi like KD Drummond who spends more time trying to get retweets than learning how the sport is played.

With all that said, I really like Ruggs and could maybe argue that he'd be the BPA, but ultimately I don't think WR will be too much of a priority at 17, especially not if a guy like Kinlaw is available. There are a few decent under the radar slot types available in FA (Taylor Gabriel, Demarcus Robinson, Paul Richardson) who we could probably entice on a 1 year deal with a chance to rehab their career with all the offensive talent we have, not to mention the extremely deep/strong WR class in the draft.

I also think with McCarthy around we might actually see Pollard utilized more in the passing game, which would theoretically decrease our reliance on a 3rd/slot type WR.
A lot of people who cover the Cowboys are mistakenly fixated on this year's deep WR class (Cavanaugh is doing the same dumb thing). They're doing nothing but setting themselves up for disappointment when the Cowboys don't draft them because they don't need them. Then they'll bitch and call out the Cowboys when it was THEY who made the mistake in judgement.

It is a little puzzling that if there are great prospects in the draft class why Dallas would pay the top price to retain one.

I look at it this way. They already invested a 1st rounder (2019) in Cooper. If they let him walk, you're going to use your 2019 and 2020 1st round picks to end up with ONE ROOKIE RECEIVER?

That's about the worst misuse of resources I have ever heard of.

Exactly why I made sure to mention 'rookie'.

And then you cross your fingers and hope that the guy can become as good as Cooper has already proven to be? Yeah, no thanks dumbasses!
