Dallas needs a special back. We can give him fewer carries, fine, but imagining D-Mac, Randle, and Williams can be what Murray was last year is delusional.
Can they average 4.7 yards per carry as a group? I don't know probably not. I think Randle would average 4.7 yards per carry or more with more carries. I think Williams could be in that same range as well. I have my doubt that McFadden would but I think McFadden's average could be close to 4.
So lets say the Cowboys stay consistent with the carries but as a group these guys only average 4.2-4.4 yards per carry. That literally means as a group with the same carries as Murray we would get 1724 yards instead of the 1845 that Murray got. Is that really the end of the world? So no I don't think it's that delusional that we can close to replacing Murray's production with multiple backs. McFadden should be able to catch similar to Murray.
What you sacrifice in rhythm by having only 1 RB getting all of the carries you make up for with fresh legs. I'd love to draft a guy still in this draft obviously but I don't think it has to be Gordon or Gurley for our team to have a great running game next year. By the way, does it concern anyone that Gurley missed 3 games in 2013 and tore his knee up in 2014. The only healthy season he has really had was in 2012 when he was a part time player.
