Brian Urlacher says Cowboys were most intriguing team. He would have been perfect leader but team couldn't justify impact on Sean Lee

Guy is a has been relic. WGAS?

What was he going to do here?

Take Lee's job?

No.

So was he gonna provide this great leadership from the bench?

He would have been great insurance if Lee goes down again. This is dumb unless Urlacher was asking too much. But, for the vet minimum I would have jumped at this opportunity.

I'm not crying about it. We've tried this approach with Brooking and Zach Thomas.

I wouldn't have hated it to see us bring him in but at the same time, where does he fit? We're in good shape at LB with Lee and Carter.

I guess Urlacher could have played strong side? But at the end of the day with two other LBs in Carter and Lee, I'm not worrying too much if the third guy is Ernie Sims or Justin Durant. Not in a 4-3 anyway which takes the emphasis off the linebackers and shifts it to the DL.

I mean, if it's the second round and we have a chance to land a stud LB, sure, I'm all for it. Certainly better than using the pick on a backup TE. But I don't feel the need to target the position in FA and I'm not going to be upset that we "missed out" on a rapidly declining FA when the position is pretty well taken care of, as it is.

Plus, there's no way he comes here having to sit behind Lee. I love Urlacher but, unfortunately, there is no place for him. We've many other needs at this time and not enough resources to even address those. It was the correct move to not sign him, IMO.

I'd rather add Winston Justice at the vet minimum. At least there is an actual purpose to bringing in another RT.

I don't want to say it was "correct" not to sign him, but Lee is the focal point of this defense. You decide where he fits best and then put him there.

Then fill in around him. So I don't want Urlacher coming in here and having Lee moved out of the middle.

Could Urlacher have played the strong side? Or could Carter have played the strong side and Urlacher the weak side? I dunno, maybe.

But if the team decided no, that is something I'm willing to defer to them on. It's not like they are devoid of all trust on the issue, nor are they clearly wrong (like they are at, say, the offensive or defensive lines).

Urlacher hasn't been the HOF Urlacher for at least the last couple of years. He can't move anywhere like he used to and that was always the strength of his game. We aren't desperate at the position so I can't find any fault in not bringing him in.

He wanted 3 or 4 mil to stay with the Bears. I doubt he was taking the veteran min.

WGAS...I actually like the young depth we have at LB.
