They need to cut it back to 8 or just make it 16 with no byes, we all know which they'll pick.
I'd do 16 team playoff with a 16 team version of an NIT and get rid of the worthless bowls. 32 teams get to play for something. Make feel like it means something again. I'm old enough to remember when winning 8 games didn't guarantee you a bowl appearance. Now shitbag 5-7 teams are getting in because there are too many.

That's retarded. 32 teams in the playoffs and getting rid of that last little bit of college football history left.

No, 16 teams in the playoffs and 16 in a secondary tournament like in basketball. Get rid of all the worthless bowl games where useless teams are playing.

If we are gonna keep bowl games, then we have to agree we need more of this.

So did all the bye week teams get smashed?
I don't think the bye had anything to do with it.

Penn State has significantly better talent than Boise State.

Texas has significantly better talent than ASU (yet still almost lost).

Georgia is playing with their backup QB.

And Ohio State should have beaten Oregon earlier in the season on their own turf so is it really a surprise that they beat them on a neutral field especially with all that talent they have?

This is the very first year of the 12 team playoff and so it's way too small of a sample size to claim definitively that the bye week played any part in those teams losing.

If anything, it's the seeding that needs to change, but that's the only thing I'd touch for now.

I have always been a proponent of an 8 team playoff. I think if showed pretty well in this one though it would have left Tennessee out. I do like the fact that 12 gives an opportunity for a Cinderella team.

I think an 8 team playoff is perfect.

Eight teams makes the most sense but there's a 0% chance they cut profits by eliminating two games. Therefore I think it would probably be best to bump the number of teams up to 16 and get rid of the byes.

The teams that had byes all seemed to be pretty rusty compared to their opponents who played games the prior week.

Sixteen is a ridiculous number of teams for the playoffs, but we all know money and TV ratings drive these decisions. Plus fans will watch regardless of the likely first round blowouts.

I know, which is why I wanted 8 to begin with when they decided to expand it, because I knew if they got to 12 they would never drop back down to 8.

I think 12 is the perfect number but they'll probably go to 16 at some point.
The problem with going to 12 is you're still going to have that massive rest/rust disadvantage, where teams with byes are "rewarded" with 3 1/2 weeks off.

I wouldn't be surprised if they addressed this issue by moving everything up a week and having playoff games during the week that's traditionally reserved for the Army-Navy game.

They've already shown that tradition means jack shit to them when money is involved. So I wouldn't be surprised one bit if they decided to trample all over that game with playoff games.

Multiple weeks off is nothing new, they did it fairly often for bowl games in the past. I think it's fine. Other factors were at play this year for why all the bye teams lost. I don't think that would happen every year.

But I'd be ok with it going to 16 if people are worried about byes. I don't think 8 is enough.

16 teams with ALL conference champs getting auto bid. Then argue and fill in the rest. Don't like it? Win your fuckin conference.

But the big difference between now and then is only one team is sitting around for close to a month. That's a disadvantage IMO.

I think it goes both ways. There is probably a rust factor to some extent, but the team resting also has an opportunity to get healthier and doesn't have the extra injury risk that a team that has to play another game does.

I'd be wary of expanding too much, but I don't think 8 should be on the table at all.

If anyone doesn't think the 9th seed could win the national championship, consider that there's a very good chance the 8th seed (Ohio State) could win it this year.

If I'm being real honest the only post season games that are actually worth watching are the playoff games. Every other bowl game have half the stars sitting out for the NFL. Want to watch Kaleb Johnson and Burden in the Missouri Iowa bowl game? Nope, they are sitting out.

At least players won't sit out if their team is in the playoffs. It makes the games more worth watching. 16 actually makes sense. Same number of rounds, you just do away with the bye weeks for shit teams like Boise State or Arizona State.

And I know, the argument is going to be, well less would leave off those shit teams out but who cares? Arizona State gave us an exciting bowl game. So will some 16 seed teams. And some top 4 teams will get their ass kicked.
