I gotta say, spend ten minutes perusing Reddit on a normal day and you'll see that the place is crawling with these types.
Fascist this and Nazi that.
There are essentially two issues that feed this machine and put it into overdrive, and amazingly, I don't even think illegal immigration is one of them.
The first is the LGBTQ/trans thing. Largely White college age (20s) young men and women are working themselves into an absolute frenzy on concepts like words can be actual violence, that not providing gender affirming care is the actual equivalent of killing "trans" kids, that saying trans isn't a real thing is "saying that trans people don't exist," and all kinds of utterly ridiculous existential type nonsense.
The second is BLM stuff, on which there is a militant arm in minority circles but is also surprisingly pushed by white progressives who actually have the gall to confront and push back on blacks and other minorities who don't agree with their narrative as if it somehow makes them less black.
Illegal immigration/ice crackdowns come in somewhere a distant third, I think, roughly at the same level as anti-capitalist sentiment.
After that almost all issues (environment, mundane policy details) seem to have taken a distant back seat.
These people have echo-chambered themselves into believing that if you are not on their side, you are an actual nazi or bigot.
This kind of stuff was going around in the 90s but in much less confrontational formats. It has now been bred in an incubator for 20+ years and it's at a boiling point of illogic.
