[h=1]Cardinals part ways with John Lott[/h] Posted by Mike Florio on February 28, 2014, 3:57 PM EST

Last weekend, Cardinals strength and conditioning coordinator John Lott was back at the Scouting Combine, encouraging players to lift 225 pounds as many times as they can.

This weekend, Lott’s tenure with the Cardinals has ended.

Per multiple league sources, Lott was let go on Friday, after seven years with the team. Lott was one of a small handful of staff members Bruce Arians retained after getting the head-coaching job in 2013.

According to one source, it was simply a matter of a desire to go in a different direction and with a different philosophy. Lott had two years left on his deal.
Lott had been promoted by Arians to the coordinator title in February 2013. That same month, the Cardinals opted to keep Lott in Arizona during the Scouting Combine.

There likely will be speculation that Lott will land in Tennessee with coach Ken Whisenhunt, who hired Lott in Arizona seven years ago. The Titans have employed Steve Watterson as strength and conditioning coach for 28 years.
