Little nugget from the PC today:

At the every end, Babe L asked about Mike saying Carson had very good ball skills. Babe said he didn't have an INT in college and had small hands, so basically how could he say that?

Mike said he's going on what he and Al Harris had seen, and said there's always a lot of projection in scouting players.

Then he said, "Cooper Beebe didn't play a whole lot of center in college and he's doing pretty damn good right now."

Mike doesn't usually praise especially rookies that directly. I think that means he loves him some Beebe and he's been kicking ass.

Ball skills aren't just INT. It's an ability to find the ball and get your hands on it. Ball skills to me are something very hard to teach. What I do think you can teach is someone with balls skills to pick off the ball more as opposed to just getting your hands on it. And I think that's what Al Harris is really good at.

You can take a look at the all time college interception leaders and they did not translate that to the pros.
Yeah INT's are fickle. Just because a guy has great ball skills doesn't mean he will get a ton of INTs. And some dudes with minimal ball skills will every once in awhile get a bunch of picks because they are just in the right place at the right time.

I think scheme and coaching plays a massive part in guys getting INTs. But it's also a bit of an unpredictable thing which is why NFL defenses rarely lead the NFL in interceptions every year. There is a certain amount of randomness to it.
