Archer: Will 6-2 Cowboys be active at trade deadline as they enter bye week?

A real DT like Buckner and a playmaker at WR and this team clearly vaults to a top 2 team in the NFC favorite. As it is now I think they are the the 4th best team in the NFC. I’d put the Eagles, The 49ers, and TB in front of the Cowboys right now, simply because they are struggling to stop the run, and they gotta be able to consistently score points in the playoffs.
Tampa Bay is a mess and Brady barely wants to be there, plus Shaquil Barrett is out for the year. No chance they're better than us.

I refuse to even acknowledge the Buckner thing.

It would be a bold yet incredibly smart maneuver that is beyond our front office's scope of logic.
There's a 0.0% chance they'd give up high picks for a DT.

Careful, they kind of beat the pants off us.
We'd beat them by double digits right now I have no doubt. They were better than us in early September, but not early November.

I've watched them play a lot and they are playing bad football. Now come early January it could swing back the other way, but right now there's no way they are ahead of us in the NFC. They need to worry about winning their weak division.

Just think of the JAP plays we could unleash on the world with him and Turpin.

No offense to the Orientals and midgets, of course.
Nips and zipperheads.

Overpaying at the deadline is usually a bad idea. You get more long term value out of the picks. And unless you are actually winning the Super Bowl, which most don't, then you blew all that value on half a season and you are left with nothing. Instead, bank your long term value over and over again until you are ahead of the 8 ball. Consider selling at a deadline sometime to accrue extra assets in a year where you don't have real title hopes.

I don't think the Cowboys are particularly elite and I probably wouldn't buy.

But if they are gonna, it needs to be for an Amari Cooper-like player who signs an extension so we can at least claim we got some term of service and not just 10 games.
The nice thing is so far, no one is crazily overpaying for guys. The Ravens gave up a 2 and 5 for Smith. I don’t think that’s bad at all for a guy who went 8 overall and is a difference maker at LB.

All things considered, I’d never bet Dak over Brady in a playoff game. I don’t give a shit how bad Brady is playing right now- if he does get to the playoffs when the time comes the guy will turn it on. I’ve seen enough “playoff” Dak to know what we are getting there, and that’s why my expectations are tempered a bit.

Dak has generally played well in the playoffs so far outside of the 49ers game last year, although that same 49ers defense went on to pretty much shut out the MVP the next week and then made life extremely difficult for the eventual Super Bowl winners the week after that.

But I agree, you can never truly count Brady out until there's 0:00 on the clock, but he looks cooked. Doesn't seem to be especially invested in playing, OL and running game are shaky, and he doesn't seem to have the arm to be a significant downfield threat anymore unless he has a bunch of space to set up and let it rip.

No he's not.

If you're not gonna go for it now, then when will you?
Exactly.
Everyone is actually very beatable in the NFC so far this season-including the Cowboys. But the Cowboys are closer then they’ve been in a while to being able to win a toss up game in the playoffs without every single thing going their way. They have enough depth and D to hang there until the very end. The wildcard is Dak. If he goes into Lambeau and plays like he did against Chicago my expectations really start to climb.

from my good friend Dbair:

Broaddus says Cowboys are working on a player for player deal.
I'll wait to hear what sdogo says.
