The Jets had about 120 carries from WRs and QBs. If you don't count those the stats drop over 600 fewer yards and YPC down to 4.2. The 49ers had almost as many non-RB carries and the Seahawks had more.Did you know the Jet's running game last year was only slightly below ours as a team? Now certainly the Jets RBs aren't shit but Chris Johnson is basically washed up and now one would call Chris Ivory a stud.
Besides, the running game doesn't mean much if your overall offense sucks.
NY's talent was so limited they had little choice but to keep things tight, mix in a bunch of gadget runs, and hope for a win at the end. Teams could play the Jets straight-up and still win. Jets and 49ers were #3 and #4 in rushing, but they were 20th and 22nd in total offense because their running games weren't dangerous enough to keep defenses from shutting down the passing game.
Dallas's running game forced 8 in the box and they ran on teams even then because Murray is a special player. You could take away his best run every few carries and he's still a stud. You take away Randle's best run and the rest of his carries YPC are beyond terrible. He's a once-per-game shot in the arm, then he's done.
On top of things Murray could pass protect and catch the ball very effectively. I like Chris Ivory, but he's not in Murray's league. At least not the DeMarco Murray of 2014.
