Jason Garrett: Have to do better job of finishing

IRVING, Texas -- One of Jason Garrett's themes this year has been to finish.
There are multiple ways to interpret the message just as there are multiple ways to interpret another one of his memes -- fight. But the Cowboys didn't finish quite well in Thursday's 41-28 win against the Chicago Bears.
After taking a 35-7 lead late in the third quarter, the Cowboys coasted, especially on defense. Special teams contributed to the mess by giving up an onside kick. The offense had to settle for a Dan Bailey field goal after a DeMarco Murray run got them to the Chicago 8 early in the fourth quarter.
The Cowboys were able to shore up the win with an Orlando Scandrick interception with 1:29 to play.
“We’re happy with the W, but we’re not happy with the last quarter of our play,” cornerback Brandon Carr said. “That’s something we have to improve upon going forward, because this is playoff football now.”
The Cowboys sat back in coverage during Chicago's comeback, which was part of the plan. They were willing to let the Bears pile up yards but they went to the extreme.
"We have to do a better job," Garrett said.
The good news for Garrett is that his players know it. Dez Bryant and Scandrick were emotional on the sidelines when things were going south. Some might view that as a negative but the Cowboys are a team that operate with a thin margin for error. They can't R-E-L-A-X as Aaron Rodgers told the Green Bay Packers faithful early in the season. They just aren't good enough.
“You have to dominate once you get a team down,” Carr said. “You’ve got your foot on the throat, you’ve got to go ahead and step on it, man.”
