I believe Hardy has a no franchise tag clause in the contract.

He does. I think his suggestion was that after the upcoming year, force Hardy into another one year prove it contract. And then franchise him? Yeah so that.

The only way you really let Hardy go without a fight in my opinion is if both Lawrence and Gregory light it up this year. I love both players but odds are it's going to take a little time for Gregory to catch on. Rookie pass rushers generally struggle a little. In which case I think you have to bring Hardy back for one more year.

Look at what Lawrence did missing half the season. I'm not saying Gregory will be the 2nd coming of Ware, but if he is as good as Lawrence with a full year (baring injury) and Lawrence progresses from last year; Hardy could be a luxury. At the very least, it gives you leverage in negotiations with Hardy.
