Sad but true.
Sad but true.
Yup. Another bullshit aspect of this new playoff format which is so shitty.Monday night playoff games. Such horseshit.
We can absolutely win this game if we find a way to contain the run.Cowboys/9er's in the 90's were some of the best playoff games, ever.
I don't want to hype myself up for this game because of last nights emotions, but this game is not un-winnable. Pressure Purdy, control the run game (to an extent), and don't let Deebo beat you. We have the defense, especially if they play amped up like they did last night. Gotta find a way to score some points again.
Even the great Tyron Smith has a learning curve. I’m glad he’s starting to win at his new home.
Agreed, if we can somewhat contain their run and force them into 3rd and 5-6+ consistently we'll definitely have a chance. Purdy has gotten away with a bunch of poor throws that should've been picked this year, we might as well just start catching them.We can absolutely win this game if we find a way to contain the run.
I don't expect us to shut it down, but that is arguably the best running team in football and that scares me.
We cannot have another Green Bay situation where they basically had so little respect for our run defense that they kept running on 2nd and 10's because they didn't think we could stop them......and they were right.
So as long as we don't let the 49ers keep consistently running their way to 2nd and 3rd and shorts, I love our chances because that is still the very last pick in the draft starting at QB, and I want to see how he does when he's got to avoid this pass rush and make reads when it isn't 2nd and 3 or 3rd and 2.
As usual, I think you are pretty spot on. The 49ers have had a pretty easy run over the last half of the season. I do believe their defense is legit though, top 3ish in the league. I think we will need them to make a few mistakes for us to win this game. If we play like a top 3 defense we have a good chance. Here's the thing with the 49ers, they're a really good, complete team, but they're nowhere near unbeatable or even as good as their 11 game win streak would seem to imply.
If you look at that win streak, here's who they've beaten:
So not only are they on an extremely long win streak that's bound to end, they're also riding a rookie QB who is bound to turn into a pumpkin at some point too.
- at Rams 31-14 - teetering team on the brink of giving up, who then gave up very shortly after
- Chargers 22-16 - good win, but a close game at home where they were trailing going into the 4th
- at Cardinals 38-10 - Colt McCoy starting for Arizona, whatever
- Saints 13-0 - solid win but the game was also much closer than it showed with the Saints turning the ball over inside the SF 10 and missing a short FG
- Dolphins 33-17 - Purdy enters, good win but looked more impressive at the time than it ended up being with the Dolphins imploding the rest of the year
- Bucs 35-7 - dominant win, very impressive, but we also just did the same thing last night
- at Seahawks 21-13 - decent win, Seattle dropped a clear pick 6 when they were down 7-3 right before halftime that would've flipped the game around, then followed that up by fumbling inside their own 10 on the very next drive which made the score 14-3 at halftime and kind of ended things
- Redskins 37-20 - game was much closer than the score indicated, tied at halftime and only a 7-point game going into the 4th
- at Raiders 37-34 - OT game against a backup QB that they probably should've lost, trailed by 10 in the 3rd
- Cardinals 38-13 - whatever, last game of the year with McSorley or some other schlub starting at QB
- Wild Card Seahawks 41-23 - down 17-14 at the half, only up 23-17 with Seattle in the red zone with 2 minutes left in the 3rd, 4th quarter explosion (lots of short completions with long YAC) skewed how close the game actually was
The vast majority of those wins came against very weak opponents and many of those games were much closer than the score indicates (Saints, Commanders, both Seahawks games) with them often trailing or tied into the 2nd half.
This is not to say that we should win or will win, but despite the hype surrounding them right now there is a definite path to winning. I'd even go as far as saying that if we play even at 85-90% of what we did last night, we should win.
As usual, the outcome will most likely be determined by which Cowboys team shows up, if we can start fast and limit turnovers/penalties I think the game is a coin flip at absolute worst.
The added variability of the MNF situation and extra rest for the 49ers is impossible to project though and may be too much to overcome.
Their defense is definitely legit and arguably the best in the league, although like Tampa if the OL can buy Dak an extra second I think there are plays to be made against their secondary. As usual, I think you are pretty spot on. That monday night game was a bitch though. I don't like it and hope the league stays away from that format moving forward. It's all a money grab anyways.
I would rather have Smith/McGovern on the left anyway, to be honest.
Me too, especially after the way that combo played last night. But tackle depth is now non-existent. We're a play away from Josh Ball.I would rather have Smith/McGovern on the left anyway, to be honest.
Hopefully we can make it just 3 more gamesMe too, especially after the way that combo played last night. But tackle depth is now non-existent. We're a play away from Josh Ball.
Nope. Fat Mike says we only get to enjoy it for the plane ride home.I refuse to acknowledge this thread's existence until tomorrow.
But tackle depth is now non-existent
what about this Alex Taylor dude? That's the issue.
what about this Alex Taylor dude?
as OL depth.What about him?
Collins has been their choice to elevate on several occasions, so that pretty much says where they are with that guy.as OL depth.
one is listed as a guard and one as a tackle. Seeing as we lost Peters, and none of us wants to see Ball.Collins has been their choice to elevate on several occasions, so that pretty much says where they are with that guy.
