Watching again... it sucks that the ball hits Sanborn in the back and deflects straight down into the ground. If it bounces up in the air at all, it's over by a mile.

We should re-sign Pickens.

And now that Sanders is hurt, hopefully that means we can finally see the Williams/Blue 1-2 punch.
I think Pickens will always be a somewhat unreliable airhead, but this team is kind of devoid of young talent and Pickens is one of the few Pro Bowl-caliber guys on the roster.

If you're going to stubbornly stick with Dak for the next few years you can't let him walk, sit on the cap space, and then feel like you have to spend one of your top picks on a WR who will take a year to get up to speed in the first place.

Look at a guy like Matthew Golden who we all liked at 12, he's on pace for about 500 yards, that's roughly what we'd be looking at out of a rookie next year.

He also helps to maximize what Lamb can do, so they're going to just have to swallow the bullet and give the guy 28-30/year.

Ok, so do we suck or not?
I think we're probably an 8ish win team, does that mean we suck?

We could easily win 10-11 if the defense was just league average, instead it's one of the worst defenses this fucking organization has had in the last 20+ years.

Any hope the defense figures shit out at some point? Like Bland and Diggs get up to speed, Overshown comes back? Maybe sign Gardner-Johnson?

I doubt it, everything is just so disjointed and off, from the coverage to tackling in space to poorly designed/timed blitzes.

They'll probably play better at times, I think you saw little glimpses of it tonight even with some better coverage downfield and a bit more pressure, but I don't think you'll ever be able to really count on them even against average offenses.

I could see it at least getting somewhat better kind of like last year as the players and the DC adjusted.

I mean they did get the Packers to fourth down in overtime. Sort of the shitty part of getting the ball first. You reverse it and the Packers are punting.

I want to have hope they will get better. You see glimpses of improvement. EZ made some plays. The pass rush was actually a lot better. But in the end they still just don't cover too many people.

They also let them score on 4 straight drives prior to that, I'm not overly impressed by them forcing a 4th down for the first time in 2.5 quarters.

Like it was previously mentioned, they'll probably improve a bit as the year goes on but we don't have one of the best edge rushers in the league anymore, so I'm guessing it'll usually be varying flavors of shit.

Messed up how they almost automatically converted 4th and 6 and it only got there because they spent other downs trying to go deeper.

I mean ultimately I know you're right.

It's so frustrating that the NFL dipshits in charge didn't see this coming. With both teams getting a possession now and the second team almost certainly going four downs the entire possession against a tired defense, you're naturally going to eat up most (or all) of the clock.

So more ties. Yay.

Sucks the defense is so bad. Because I actually feel very good about the offense finally. They actually look multi dimensional. And of course we can't even put together a respectable defense.
The running game in particular is impressive given the talent, or lack thereof, and I attribute it mostly to the coaching (Adams and Riley primarily).

I also think Schottenheimer has a pretty good feel for the offensive design, he does a good job mixing up the play-calling, he throws a few wrinkles in without it feeling forced (Lamb running play vs. the Bears aside) and does a good job of incorporating the RB's into the passing game.

It's about the only reason for optimism moving forward.
