Yea I think he might be a stud, at least statistically he's comparable to guys like Verse, Anderson Jr., Latu and some of the type young edge rushers during their rookie years. If he can continue to ascend like them, combined with what we have on the interior, we could be cooking with gas going into 2026.
I know people will hate to hear it. But I think we really need a safety and corner. Don't get me wrong, I'd still love someone like Bain at DE to compliment EZ (Likely long gone by our picks) but this secondary feels like the real hot mess unless Revel steps in and plays well.

I have zero problem with using our top picks to focus on the back seven if the value is there. I know people will cry and complain about how the Cowboys aaalllllwaaaaays draft corners in the first. Which is patently retarded. They fixated on some stupid trope from a decade or more ago and cling to it. We heard it last year, the year before, and the year before, etc... And we'll hear it again this year leading up to the draft. Guaranteed.

My thought as well. I can already hear the cries about us always drafting corners. We don't. But this year, I'll be watching the corners closely. Bland looks like shit. Diggs if over halfway out the door. Revel has been out for a year and a half and we still have no idea if he can play football at a high level still. Corner still looks like a massive steaming pile.

And frankly safety isn't much better. Wilson has been trash. Thomas has sat out with headaches for multiple weeks. I don't feel good about any of the safeties on the roster any longer.

I doubt there will be a safety available in the first that would be worth the pick but if Downs is around that's a no brainer.

I'm fine with CB as well, I wasn't when we had Diggs on his deal while we knew a Bland extension was coming, but Diggs will be gone and I'm fine spending a 1 to where we'd be looking at a group of Bland, Revel, round 1 rookie and then maybe an Elam or Carson as the 4th guy.

The CB just has to be a physical tackler with ball skills, I don't want some prima donna that doesn't want to hit.

One interesting point if you believe the rumors is that we were interested in trading for both Trey Hendrickson and Quinnen's brother Quincy.

They're both FA's next year, so if you're really that interested in trying to win go ahead and sign one of them in 4 months without giving up a pick.

Agreed, it's really bad.

Yeah either Downs falls (Very unlikely, but saying Will Johnson would go in the second round would have sounded crazy this time last year as well) or someone I haven't thought of yet rises.

But someone like Downs would have such a massive impact on this defense.

We don't "always" draft corners, but its still not a good idea to take them early. Still way better to build your front 7. Still would rather have great safeties than great CBs.

Given our current situation if a CB is the BPA you take them, if they're near BPA they should be in the conversation depending on what else is available and what position the actual BPA plays.

In years past I'd have ignored it completely given where the roster was but it's at a point now where it's definitely in the conversation.

We are giving up almost as much for Williams as the Packers gave up for Micah Parsons.

Jerry is a brain dead fucking imbecile.

Next year's first better be Green Bay's.
A first two years from now, a 2026 second, and a bust for a pro bowl DT in his prime and very importantly under contract for the foreseeable future.

Good. I have zero confidence they’d have turned any of their picks into a player half as competent.

We finally fixed DT— it’s a shock that it took them so long to realize the importance of the position. Good tackle play matters more than play at edge. Now we have the currently graded 7th best DT in the league. He’s not Simmons, but then no one is.

Osa is odd man out, but he’s good depth in what’s become a darn good rotation.

I also am digging the Wilson trade. Way better than anything we’d have chosen with that 7th round pick.

It remains to be seen how much better this makes Ez, Simple, and Kneeland, but it’s a game changer for Wilson and Overshown

They’re fine if the talent is justified. Patrick Surtain is an impact difference-maker who justified his draft position the moment he stepped onto the field.

But top DT’s are almost always top ten picks, short of a super deep class like this last one. They represent the foundations of the game.

You can’t build a front seven independently of your secondary because they are all interconnected. You can’t stop the pass without both pressure and coverage and you can’t stop the run with undersized penetrators who lack the technique like Osa. You have to kind of build it all at the same time and not be afraid to replace parts with better ones each year.

You follow the talent in a draft, and don’t force the position when it’s not there.

I honestly worried Dallas might panic-reach for their 3rd rated CB back in 2021 and was screaming for them to take Parsons. Thank God they actually followed the talent and even traded down in the process.

But I digress— if there’s an even choice between a top graded CB and top graded DT, I take the tackle if my need is equal.

And now we won’t have to

There's my fucking guy, best DT group in the league, drink it in.
It’s a critical position, and now they’ve got to actually coach the rest properly. The back seven are in shambles, and I don’t know that Eberflus will even know how to use Overshown and that’s assuming he’s actually healthy and ready to play.

I only wish Diggs hadn’t caught Cowboys-itis and fallen so far. WTH.

This season it’s prolly too late to save, but they need to set a goal to at least start looking like a good defense.

Not saying the offense gets a pass, but they’d be a lot better if the defense actually stopped people and got them the ball back.

The rest of this year is just preparing for next year in my mind. Even the Wilson move is a no risk move with no downside, either he works out as a borderline starter and we've just plugged one of our biggest holes or we lose a 7th with no cap hit beyond 2025.

It's just a shame they couldn't have made some of this happen 1-2 months ago, but such is life with a moron ownership group.
