Yeah but a DT is different than a DE.

And Golston notched 5.5 sacks last year while starting 13 games. He is a better younger version of Walker in my book. Walker notched 3.5 while starting all 17 games. The QB hits are nice and all. But you'd think that many hits would actually translate to something.
The only thing Golston has is youth, Walker put up 7 sacks a few years ago and sacks can be somewhat flukey.

I also think you have to factor Parsons in, he kind of raises up everyone around him and opens up more opportunities for stats.

All things being equal I'd lean Golston just because he's younger but Walker is at least roughly equal and arguably a better player.

Moore is a mouthpiece for the team so if it's coming from him I bet it's the organization's way of trying to placate the fan base. Will they actually follow through on what they're trying to do?

Who knows, but I'd be pretty pleased if they re-signed Osa, Lewis, Dowdle, and maybe one of the DE's (Lawrence/Golston/Lawson), extended Parsons and signed 2-3 mid-tier FA's (EJ Speed, DeMarcus Walker, etc.).

In the article Moore said they'd be more aggressive on external FA's "than last year", which isn't saying much, but it might mean they sign 2-3 decent mid-tier guys instead of one last year (Kendricks).

Yep. I'll believe it when I see it. Last year around this time they were saying "all in".

A month or two later they were trying to gaslight us into thinking that "all in" means something different than what the entire world thinks it means.

This year I suspect they'll be telling us that "more aggressive" means signing 5 Olawales instead of 2.

Stephen Jones says Cowboys want to draft a QB, likely ending Trey Lance era in Dallas
With Dak Prescott under contract, there isn’t much money left to go around in Dallas.

Feb. 24, 2025
INDIANAPOLIS — The Dallas Cowboys gave up a fourth-round pick to take a look at Trey Lance.

The club is now ready to invest another pick in a young quarterback to develop behind Dak Prescott.

Prescott will be the highest-paid player in the NFL this season. That doesn’t leave much money to spread among his backups, which directly impacts Lance and Cooper Rush, who are both free agents.

Stephen Jones, the Cowboys chief operating officer and co-owner, doesn’t expect Lance to return.

“We took a shot a Trey and wanted to do that,” Jones told The Dallas Morning News at the scouting combine. “We think the world of Trey.
“But us having Dak signed up for the long-term, I think he’s probably going to be looking for something different.”

The Cowboys acquired Lance from San Francisco 18 months ago, just ahead of the team’s final preseason game. His only full offseason and training camp with Dallas came last season.

Lance played in just four games and had one start in his time with the Cowboys. He completed 25 of 41 passes for 266 yards with one interception and was sacked four times. He rushed for 41 yards on 11 carries.

New head coach Brian Schottenheimer and quarterback coach Steve Shimko have mentioned to Jones they would like to select a quarterback in April to develop.

“You know, I think one of our goals is to get a young quarterback in the draft,” Jones said. “I don’t know where that’s going to be.
“That’s why we gave a [fourth-round pick] for Trey. It seems like all the quarterbacks, even guys we have in the fourth round, go in the first. They always go so much higher than what you think.”

And what about Rush, who has compiled a 9-5 record while filling in for Prescott in his Cowboys career?

“You know how much we think of Cooper,” Jones said. “We just don’t know what he’s going to cost.

“When we’re paying Dak what we’re paying him, unfortunately we do have to go cheap there.” :mad

No stopping now. He will be massively overpaid.
Everyone always gets sticker shock these days. He will make bank in free agency. So I'm sure to keep him he will also make bank. That's what happens when you wait until right before free agency to negotiate.

You have to admit we're hitting it out of the park lately on our fourth rounders.

This is why you don't give away fourth round picks. It's how you build your RB and LBer room. Instead we are thin to completely baron at both positions.

And then suddenly you consider resigning dudes like Dowdle.

I wouldn't waste a dime on Dowdle.

Save that money for someone who can make a real impact at a position of need.

Totally agree. He hit his ceiling last season. It's downhill from here and he can easily be replaced in the draft with a cheaper alternative.
