Yeah the defense finally comes together in game 14 and that sets up the sell job for next season.
How do you go all offseason and all training camp and these guys still don't know how to communicate or get on the same page? I mean I can understand a dude in man coverage just flat getting beat. But these zones with blown coverages and guys just not even knowing what to do or how to do it is inexcusable. The coaches should be ashamed for that.

The messaging with this team is often off track and I think is one of a thousand reasons why we never seem to get over whatever hump is in front of us.
It all comes down to these amateurs being incapable of judging talent, admitting they were wrong, or correcting their mistakes.

They also don't seem to understand how to motivate players. Jimmy understood, Parcells understood, but they don't.

You say we need to work hard and get better, you don't say, we're great and everything is fine because we're going to be great when you're clearly not.

True, but it all goes back to their ego. When they say things like, "This defense can still be damn good" it's because they can't admit that they may have made bad choices on their handpicked DC and the personnel they've brought in. It's never about what's best for the team, it's about defending themselves and the decisions they've made.

I bet these guys would be the worst stock traders. They'd hold on to a dog even as it craters because, by God, they bought it for reasons and they're sure those reasons are eventually going to make it go up. And just like in stock trading, they're rich enough to make these mistakes and it still not really hurt them.

It's truly astonishing how uncoordinated the backend of the defense looks.

Saying I think we're better than this and we need to work hard to get there would be fine.

Saying I think we're going to be a damn good defense feels completely disconnected from reality.
When they say stupid shit, no one ever checks their ass. I want to see some reporters challenge them and make them uncomfortable

I will just never understand how these guys can be so clueless in a professional sport where this is literally their only job/responsibility in life.
Making more and more money on something that feeds itself is literally their only job/responsibility in life.

With the progress stopper, Hooker gone, nothing can stop the Junyuh teh Retard era at safety.

Easy for him to puff out his chest after playing the fricking Jets

Balanced good offenses just blow us out of the water, like most of the last few decades but even worse.

We might be able to improve to a ceiling of 2014-level defense, and even that defense fell to pieces by years end.

That was before the game.

And a 2014-level defense might be enough to make a run with some luck.

The 2014 defense couldn't generate any pass rush but there were two things they did well that year:

One, they forced turnovers.

Two, they got clutch stops in so many games to either close out a victory or get the ball back to the offense so they could drive for the win.

I don't think there's a single member of this board that wouldn't sign up for that right now.

So if this defense's ceiling is the 2014 defense, especially if we can add a decent pass rush to it, I'll be absolutely thrilled.
