Given the structure of the roster TE is probably the least important position for us at the moment. We're also relatively deep there with decent enough guys, so...whatever.
Right, I'm not worried about it, it's just weird. Unless it's something like a minor injury or something we don't know about, which it probably is.

Yeah I doubt he has actually moved down the depth chart. Probably injury or rest or just what's open to the media

I did see another comment from one of the DC.com writers that Ferguson was healthy, so who knows.

Maybe they don't like Ferg's effort or attention or work ethic lately and are sending him a message. Just guessing. But it wouldn't be the worst thing if that's the case.

My guess is you're reading way too much into OTAs. Wait until real training camp at least.

There's really nothing much to talk about though so it lends itself to over scrutiny.

I think you're probably right that it's nothing, but the combination of that, plus Ferguson's down year plus his looming contract makes it intriguing. It's something to watch as camp comes at least.

In fact I wouldn't be shocked if this was a contract thing, that they are assuming Ferguson won't be back next year and are looking to move on early.

And honestly if true that might not be a bad idea, since after last year I'm not convinced he's appreciably better than a Spann-Ford type. Might as well find out for sure.

The one thing I do find interesting is that Spann-Ford has been looking good. And yes, I'm reading way too much into it by even discussing him at this point. But the guy is intriguing. He is a massive man. He even just looks massive watching him. Pretty good athlete for a dude that size. He also stands out as the UDFA last year who got the most money. So right off the jump the Cowboys obviously saw something they wanted in the guy.

And he had some really fun things to watch in college at Minnesota. He looked to have very natural hands but I think was plagued by drops his last year in college. I will say, he is a very unique athlete and those types always intrigue me. Dudes with average size, average speed, average quickness are boring. This dude stands out as physically different. And so yeah, I'm interested to see if he can step up and become a legit NFL weapon.

Yea, it's interesting to read because there isn't anything else happening but I don't think any of it is really worth digging in on or changing opinions.

Like sure, Elam and Mingo have supposedly looked pretty good in the little bit of practice the media has seen, does that mean I trust them as anything more than an average CB3/WR4 until I see otherwise?

Nope.

I already know what Pickens is, so hearing that he's flashing isn't surprising, but I'm not going to get all juiced up about the 90 minutes of practice the media is allowed to see per week.

If Ferguson is washing out then Tyler Warren was definitely the better pick.
Maybe, if it were me I'd have taken Derrick Harmon.

Warren was arguably the BPA for me but the relative importance of the position dropped him a bit in my mind, and ultimately if I had known that we would trade a 3 for Pickens (with a potential large extension to follow in the next 8-10 months) it would've made me even less inclined to take Warren.

2-3 years from now I think we're going to look back on the decision as a Booker vs. Harmon/Grant tradeoff, unless Warren turns into a top 3ish TE in the league. We filled CB with a value pick in Revel, we traded a 3 for Pickens, and we got a steal in the 2nd with a pass rusher, if you exclude CB/WR/DE the biggest needs left for us going into the draft were DT, RB and OG. Obviously RB was never happening unless Jeanty fell, so you were down to an OL vs. DT.

At the end of the day Booker was probably a very slight reach, but he's a guy who's almost a guarantee to be a very good starter, if not a Pro Bowler, so I can't complain too much.

Ferguson is an interesting one because if he plays like he did in 2023 that's a pretty big upgrade over what we had last year, and with the Pickens addition it would make the passing game very dangerous.

Conversely, if he sucks, I don't think it would hurt the offense too much specifically because we added Pickens.

Sort of like a found money situation with him.
