I liked James in the 5/6 range, so I was good with the pick, but what really makes me optimistic is the track record that Eberflus and Borgonzi have with LB's.

Anthony Hitchens, Damien Wilson, Zaire Franklin, Bobby Okereke, EJ Speed, Shaquille Leonard, and then in FA you have Tremaine Edmunds and TJ Edwards.

That's 5 starting caliber LB's in the last decade roughly, all day 3 picks, plus Leonard in the 2nd round and Edmunds and Edwards as FA's.

These guys know what they're looking for, and they're basically batting about 70% on turning day 3 picks into starters.

Grumpy scouts:

Shemar James, Florida (6-1 ½, 226, 4.73)
Said one scout: “Captain America. Phenomenal human being. I can see him being a CEO of a company one day. Just a solid, consistent player. Not the best athlete in the world but good enough. He’ll be gone by the end of the third or the fourth. Someone’s going to fall in love with him based on the interview process.”

Good, I at least like that about him. He and Loofah should be pretty solid eventually.

I recall I didn’t think much of Overshown when he was drafted, we need another LB, and Loofah whom I also doubted has proven to be a legit player (though not special).

So I reserve judgement on James, despite how much it felt this pick came out of nowhere.

They had a bunch of contact with him leading up to the draft from what I remember. He was an Eberflus pick through and through, and given their track record I'm pretty confident in how it'll turn out.

Yeah I can't remember the last LBer pick I was excited about. Probably Cox, so that tells you how little I know about LBers in the draft. I hate to sound like LT, but I'll just have to wait and see. I can't really get excited about a player that doesn't excite me but I'm also not going to dump dirt on the kid until I see him in our system in the NFL. It's a fifth round pick so it's not really much to get upset about. And we didn't give up a future pick to get him at least.

That’s what it boils down to. If he makes it… great. If not… oh well. One of many 5th rounders that wash out all across the league every year.

Yea and statistically speaking we should let Eberflus pick a day 3 LB basically anytime he wants, unless we have like a top 3 LB group in the league.

His track record drafting LB's is pretty nuts.
