If I were his teammate I'd call him "Hill."

That goes to show you the power of recruiting and money. I bet a very tiny percentage grew up in the state.
Most of the large programs recruit from all over. Michigan traditionally recruits from the midwest and California.

Not sure what this is supposed to accomplish, but carry on.

I'm starting to see a lot of positive predictions from CFB writers/media members regarding OU.

More than a few are throwing Mateer's name out there as a Heisman finalist.

Their defense is getting a lot of love and everyone seems to love the new RB they picked up from Cal.

I'm not getting sucked in though. Venables is still the head coach and I'm not a fan of his style of game management.

I do think Mateer is the real deal. Getting him (and the OC, package deal) was crucial in stopping this thing from really spiraling out of control.

But I'm with you. I'm doubtful that he alone is enough to fix everything.

This 100%.

Seth Littrell was a complete disaster. The entire offense, from top to bottom, looked like hot garbage under his tutelage.

Do you think Venables is the answer? I don't. As likable as he is, I can't see someone who can put that offense on the field (hiring Littrell, just the overall mess) as being the guy. And as improved as the defense is, it still has too many random major breakdowns at times.

Unless the problems are things behind the scenes that are out of his control, which I'm not a hardcore enough fan to keep up with all that stuff.

I don't think he's the answer either. The Littrell hire was just one of many bad decisions he's made. There have also been too many embarrassing moments under his watch. Like, all-time bad moments in OU history type stuff.

  • 49-0 to Texas because of the cowardly gameplan he and Lebby co-authored.
  • The clusterfuck that was the 2024 season.
  • Choosing Jackson Arnold over Dillon Gabriel. Anyone with a functioning brain and eyes could plainly see that Gabriel was by far the superior QB.
  • Poor game management that hasn't improved since day 1

If he falls flat this season, I think they finally move on. Especially with a new AD taking over.
