Neither party follows laws. Living in the ivory tower that is DC affords a great many luxuries, and it’s not like there are many differences between mainstream Democrats and Republicans. They’re the same people.
That’s hyperbole. California still has a very robust economy. It’s the 5th largest in the world, and the largest in the U.S. by a very wide margin. Newsom’s issue is that he “governs” by a concept built on “tax it” or “ban it”. Even though he’s a despicable human being, California’s economy will survive regardless of what he does due to the abundance of natural resources in the state.

You guys know that I grew up in L.A. and own property out there. I split my time roughly 50/50 between Texas and California for tax purposes. Newsom, in my opinion, has done a lot of damage to the state and certainly to the liberty of the residents based on his tax policy and hatred of guns, but it isn’t something that’s going to turn the state into some cesspool like Mississippi.
The Democrats aren’t smart enough for that type of strategy.
