Absolutely. I think Dak needs to push the ball down the field more. He gets into this funk of relying too heavily on the short game. This was the perfect game were a few big down field passes would have won it. Slow methodical drives against the best defense in football wasn't going to cut it.

I've said repeatedly, if you throw a pick trying to throw a 30 or 40 yard pass I can stomach it. Throwing a pick on a 4 yard pass is inexcusable. The 49ers corners were their biggest weakness and we barely tested them deep.
I don't think Dak has the confidence, the mechanics, or the arm to get the ball downfield consistently anymore. The guy can't hit a deep ball to save his life. He underthrows everything.

This is exactly right, every team left either has an elite QB or a tailored, layered attempt that builds on itself (49ers, Eagles), we have neither.

And no I don't think Mahomes would be Mahomes if we went to Chicago or whatever. He has amazing natural talent but got lucky to have it nurtured in a perfect situation with Reid where he could sit for a year behind Smith.

We could pull off something similar here when the opportunity presents itself but there's approximately a 0.0% chance Stephen and Jerry are forward thinking enough to do something like that.
I do agree that some places are QB deserts. No one succeeds in Chicago and hasn't in generations. It's not just the talent or lack of it.

The Cowboys quite simply choke in these kind of games. The Diggs dropped INT, the penalty on Wilson, the Turpin idiocy all contributed just like Prescott's retarded decisions and lack of guts.
Yeah, like, I'm not sure the 49ers were the better team if Dak doesn't shit the bed.

They had the better skill positions but the defenses were close.

We count on Dak to be an elite QB. Last night he played worse than the rookie.

We lose.

And it tells me how much I can rely on him going forward.

Underground deep balls are ok. You get PI half the time or more. But you have to do it.

Romo is exactly who I had in mind. Romo talked about how he only saw things better and the game slowed down as he got older, it's just that his body broke down. Dak doesn't seem to be on that same track.
Yep, and his body is breaking down. He can't move after the surgery as well anymore. His arm is getting weaker. He has to wind up and put everything into throws anymore. I haven't studied it but wouldn't shock me if his windup is comparatively very slow.

Zeke: 10 carries, 26 yards.

Pathetic. A huge waste of salary cap dollars.
Yea, it's time unfortunately. He looked half decent for most of the year so I thought bringing him back cheap might be a good plan but he had absolutely nothing left in the latter stages of the year.

Literally any reasonable mid-round RB would give us twice as much as he did over the last few weeks.

2-3 Mac Joneses before a Mahomes is going to take literally 8-10 years, if not more, which is what I've been saying.

I know for us fans it's hard to compartmentalize the different eras but just lumping everything in to one big "30 years of sucking" is completely ridiculous.

If we perpetually have a guy on a rookie deal it is saving us from the mistake of overpaying for someone we shouldn't which leaves us more money to out a team around him whether he's the guy or not. Dak stepped into a very favorable situation in 2016. If we can continue to restock our lines and skill position players with the savings, I believe it will keep us competitive even if we are still searching for our franchise guy

That's the one thing that really made me mad last night. So last week wasn't a fluke. Totally unacceptable.

I don't care how well you cover, I don't want that on my team. Give me a corner who covers like a seven and will tackle someone over a corner who covers like an eight or nine and thinks he's too good to hit anyone even in a playoff game.
Lost a lot of love for #7 these last couple weeks.

He ain't got the heart some of the guys on defense do.

Not really. Sometimes it's ok, but he just can't throw that ball anymore.

He has to hit Gallup reasonably in stride and we win that game. It's a touchdown. Instead it's hideously underthrown and we go three and out and lose.

That was disgraceful. Diggs could have either had the pick or blindsided Kittle. That was one of the worst chicken-shit plays I've ever seen in an NFL game. Deon made some chicken-shit plays, but his upside outweighed some of that.
If nothing else, just punched the ball out while Kittle was juggling it.

Jerry can't give up on Dak, McCarthy or Zeke because HE made the decisions. HE owns them.
Did you really have a problem with the coaching this year, other than Moore's antiquated system?

Dak, I don't blame the team for signing him. He's a good QB, just not elite. I don't think the team has done anything wrong with him up to this point. Now if Jerry insists on keeping him for years to come despite performances like last night's, I'll be with you.

Zeke is the one who is a definite Jerry pet. He let Zeke take him to the cleaners on the contract and he can't/won't admit it.

That was as good a chance as we're ever going to have under the Jones family regime to reach an NFCC, and even a SB for that matter.

It still chaps my ass that we thoroughly outplayed them for 2.5 quarters but didn't win because the QB couldn't even play decent football.

He was total dogshit and that's why we aren't celebrating today.

Diggs = deon sanders school of tackling

Your points about Dak are true, although 2016 was a better opportunity and so was 2007.

The NFC is relatively weak right now, and will almost certainly be again next year, but there's no way 3 straight road games is a better opportunity than a bye and HFA, while largely playing teams you've already beaten handily in the regular season.

But yea, the NFC is definitely weak with no truly top tier QB's and I think it'll be that way for at least another year or two.

Not reaching an NFCC in the next two years while playing like that against the likes of Hurts, Purdy/Lance, Cousins, Daniel Jones, Goff and maybe Stafford if the Rams can bounce back would certainly be enough to move on from Dak once his deal is up.
