I think they straight up want another guy to compete and or backup Biadasz. But I don't think they view him as a guy they are actively trying to replace. You can tell that from the centers we did bring in for a visit. To me those are fourth round on type guys. Although I know some have the Nebraska kid earlier.
I think they kinda like Farniok as well .

I think they may. But is he really a center?

It's always hard to tell. With Farniok and Ball these are dudes who needed to add strength and mass. We all thought Steele was shit, but the coaches saw him work his ass off during the offseason and thought better. I don't know what they think of Farniok and Ball yet. But those guys could potentially have made a lot of progress.

Farniok at least contributed meaningful snaps last season.

He did have 23 snaps. I honestly can't remember when he played offense though. He wasn't a prospect that I had any interest in before the draft. Hell I didn't even know who the heck he was. But with O-lineman that's not surprising. I didn't know who Steele was either. I don't like blind faith but I can at least admit the Cowboys know a hell of a lot more about the guy right now than I do.

He played a few snaps in mop up duty against the Eagles.

Late-rounders can certainly be molded into starters along the OL if the unit as a whole is well coached, although I can't say that they were especially well coached during the second half of last season. The entire offense more or less collapsed though so the issue could've been more systemic (Moore and his offensive design primarily) than just an OL-specific issue.

Good stuff from Sturm there, especially the part about McCarthy's 2016 team not having high OL picks. Good comments in the thread from everyone also.

No one thought anything of John Gesek when he came to Dallas and joined an OL full of scrubs, castoffs, a converted DL, and an undersized 3rd rounder. Erik Williams seemed like just another 3rd round pick, too.

But the chemistry they had together elevated that group to another level.

They also discovered if they held their blocks long enough, their RB would never let them down. Three titles later no one cared about where they came from.

We could have just kept Cooper. We prob go Oline in the first and Wr in the second. The prob is our second round picks usually suck.
Well and we haven't really brought any second round WRs in for a look. So is that something I'm over thinking or are the Cowboys going for broke for WR in the first? I know everyone's thought is we will get a WR later. But all three WRs we brought in for our 30 visits are WRs. And there is a chance all 3 of those guys are gone by 24. I'd guess maybe Burks is left. I give Olave maybe a 30% chance?

So I guess what I'm saying is don't be shocked if we take a WR at 24 if one of these guys falls. They are great value there if they actually are still there.

Just remember Dak was a 4th round pick & plays like a top 3. Change my mind!

It was personal w/the FO. Cooper played 52 games for the Raiders before they traded him. He’s played 56 for the Cowboys. That’s not a coincidence.

This is not all about Coops unwillingness to get the vaccine prior to contracting the virus in the fall, which resulted in him missing two key games last November. But Coop won 0 points with the Cowboys when he passed on the needle. It was personal. As it should be when paying a player $100 million.

Same with Collins being out of shape/car accident after the big contract

Yup. Plus Coops sharp decline in targets within Gruden’s offense is probably why he was left go from the Raiders as well. Including injuries, concussion, plantar fasciitis etc....

  • Dak Prescott’s 4th round status is irrelevant now that he’s a $40M QB. This $40M is the biggest source of justifiable angst with Dak’s performance this past season and going forward.
  • He’s not Top 3, but Top 8. Top 3 would be a QB that can take over a game vs playoff competition like Mahomes, Rodgers, Josh Allen, Justin Herbert, Brady. Prescott had good games early on vs Chargers and Patriots, but didn’t shine vs SF, Arizona, Kansas City. Feasting on Giants, Washington only gets a team so far. Our offense struggled to win quality opponent games when the defense allowed more than 20 points and our defense may not repeat its turnover bounty in 2022
  • With our sans-Cooper WR corps now ranking Top 10 instead of Top 3, we’ll see how Dak Prescott performs. Very important season coming up for Prescott in this regard.
  • I remain optimistic. I hope it’s a case of Prescott purposely being too careful as opposed to flat out missing reads. The Kurt Warner YouTube breakdowns provide excellent insight.

That's the problem. Would LG be considered such a massive hole if we had Collins to play there? Would WR even be a need if we still had Cooper?

And yet now these two positions are must haves in the draft or we are screwed.
You quoted a deleted post, just FYI.

Agreed. Wideouts are like RBs: you can find them anywhere ... if you know what you're doing. Green Bay has for years.
