Haven't kept up with it this year, but where is Burks supposed to go now with running a 4.55 and lousy other results?

And he didn't even try to improve on that time at his pro day? Yikes.
And that was a fast track at Indy. Pretty rare you see someone not run at their Pro Day.

The stat is overrated for sure. Cooper Kupp ran a 4.6+ and just turned in one of the greatest WR seasons in history last year.

But you are right, why not try to improve it?

He is either going to go to the right team and be really good or he is going to go to the wrong team who uses him like a normal WR and he won't. Back shoulder fades, bombs and screens the guy is a beast. Real thicc too.

Someone like Aaron Rodgers would kill you with a guy like that. Not sure about Dak and the Cowboys though.

This seemed like a good idea at the time.

Dak usually doesn’t throw to anyone unless they are wide open. So, there’s that.

I don't know if it's Dak or the coaches but we haven't thrown many back shoulder passes at all. You watch Rodgers and he does it all game long and burns people.

But yeah, Dak only seems to throw into tight coverage when we have a big lead or trail big. I'm not sure why either because we usually do really good at it.

That is exactly who he reminds me of. Kind of a work in progress as a route runner. Maybe Burks gets better at it, Dez never really did. Just an absolute beast to try to tackle. Great at jump balls and running in the open field. Can burn you deep even though he is big.

He reminds me a ton of Dez Bryant.

Yeah, I think team fit is relevant.

We need some speed at WR, especially if we plan on featuring our generational franchise TE.

Burks is a weird one because on tape he looks like he has really good deep speed and often pulls away from defenders in a foot race, but he ran a pretty average 40. If we draft him I'll just hope the tape is more indicative.

I'm starting to wonder if Tyler Smith might be in play at 24. McClay mentioned how we like a number of OT's who could also kick inside to OG, which fits Smith to a tee, and he's starting to get a lot of hype as a potential late 1.

He has ideal size/length and could be a long-term solution at LT, but worst case he's a pretty clean fit on the inside.

I wouldn't be in love with it because I think he's extremely raw and it'd be a pretty big gamble, but his sheer size/length/athleticism should at least make him a nice fit on the interior.

I think I could talk myself into it though given the looming specter of taking a WR at 24.

I would much rather take Green or Zion. Those are slam dunk, really good guards right out of the gate. And honestly I may feel better about Green at LT right now than Smith. That isn't to say I don't like Smith, the potential is through the roof. But the guy had a shit ton of penalties for a reason. He isn't technically sound at all. And those two other guys can give you sound and talented at guard right now. And with Zion you have some potential to put him at center if you like another guard/tackle later in the draft like say a Kinnard or someone.

I agree with you that I think McClay probably likes Tyler Smith. But that doesn't mean he has a first round grade on him. McClay was mentioning how great he thinks the depth is at that position. So he may be eyeing a Tyler Smith as the ideal pick in say round two. Which I'd be thrilled with.

I'd never take Smith over Green or Zion, but I could talk myself into it as opposed to taking Burks or Olave.

Based on the recent hype I don't think he'll make it to us in the 2nd, although it'd be great if he did.

Dez ran a 4.52 at his proday. Burks ran a 4.55. Not really much difference to me. Especially when you consider Prodays are a little more friendly with their numbers. And heck Lamb was only a 4.5 guy.

I think forties get blown out of proportion a little bit. I saw Burks running away from Alabama defenders in the open field. I'm not really worried about the forty time.

I don't think he will make it to our second either. It's a great O-line class but McClay underestimates how thirsty NFL teams are. I won't be shocked if 4 OTs go in the top 10 of this class. That's what Dane Bruglar actually thinks will happen. But than you have a guy like Sean Rhyan who we may love as well.

I don't think you're giving enough love to Olave though. I really like him. Excellent route runner with burner speed to take the top off the defense. I think he could be really good in Dallas. I just don't really want a first round receiver. Put me down for Alec Pierce if we take one later though. I really like that dude.

Olave is fine, he deserves to go in the 1st, it's more about our unique situation. We spent our 2019 1st on Cooper, our 2020 1st on Lamb, we're about to re-sign Gallup who is a 1000 yard-type WR if he isn't relegated to being the WR3, and Dak isn't at his best in a spread it out, throw it around 35-40 times a game type system.

He's at his best in a play-action/run-oriented offense and we need to fortify the OL/front 7 at least as badly, and likely more so, than we need a WR3.

So yea, someone like Pierce, Robinson, Shakir, Pickens, Metchie, etc. in the 3rd or 4th is the best strategy unless someone like Dotson somehow falls to us in the 2nd.

I can't envision any scenario where I'd be happy with a WR in the 1st considering the talent that should be available on the OL/front 7.

I agree, it's why I'm all on board with Kenyon Green. And Zion's combine may have made that a safe bet since I bet Zion is higher on a lot of boards now. I hate that I have to invest another first just to fix guard but fuck it we kind of need to. To give Dak type to throw, to give Pollard and Zeke running lanes. I'm not a Zeke fan but we have to at least get him a little running lane so he can fall forward for 4 yards a pop consistently.

But Tyler Smith in the first? No thank you, just give me Olave who I know is a perfect fit with Daks style. I'll go get a safer bet at guard like the LSU kid.
