Been a while since I've seen it, but off the top of my head, it lacked the nuance of the book in terms of characterization. Rorschach is supposed to be an object mostly of revulsion and pity, but I didn't get much of that from the film. Most people in the theater with me cheered when he maims those guys in the prison scene.How did Watchmen miss the mark?
It was almost frame by frame the same as the comic and the visuals were great IMO.
Not much of the Cold War mutually-assured destruction stuff was translated well. Plus they wimped out on the vagina dentata alien, which was a key symbol. And the Leonard Cohen softcore porn scene was kind of laughable.
I can't be too hard on Snyder, I don't guess. That book's content and format are so closely linked that it's kind of not filmable.
