Yea I think between that, having one of the few WR's in the league who is clearly better than him, as well as a general atmosphere that is more pro-offense and offensive stars (compared to Pittsburgh which likes to romanticize defense), this is just a really good atmosphere for him.
I still...
I wouldn't say either GB or Pittsburgh got fleeced for a few reasons, but I think ultimately both trades are going to be better for us in the long run.
Pickens is obvious, he's a Pro Bowl talent at 24 an getting him for a 3 is a coup. I think the current environment here just brings out the...
Turpin seems already to be getting worn down at his size between playing heavy snaps at WR and returning kicks/punts.
If Flournoy can keep making an impact it'd probably be best to start limiting Turpin's snap to maintain his explosiveness.
If he ends up around 270 carries that's not bad at all, I feel like what they're doing with him is sustainable enough.
He's not on pace for 400 regular season touches like Barkley was last year, or like Elliott was during some of those ridiculous Garrett years
Handful of guys I'm keeping an eye on with our two 1's:
CJ Allen, Arvell Reese, David Bailey, Jeremiyah Love, Keldric Faulk, TJ Parker, Matayo Uiagelelei, Quincy Rhodes Jr., Cashius Howell, Zion Young
Basically all LB's and edge rushers.
This is what I've been saying for about 5 years now.
Teams like the Rams, 49ers, Packers and others trot out average to slightly above average OL talent and get better results than we were getting with better talent because of the coaching/offensive systems they had in place.
I still think...
Mazi was on the field for runs of 16, 21 and 16 right up the middle, so basically half of Hall's yards on 3 carries.
Which is not great considering Mazi was on the field for a grand total of...8 running plays.
Yea this DL is way more talented both at DT and edge than the 2014 group, if Eberflus and his crew of flunkies can get the back 7 to cover cohesively we might be in business.
And even if the defense is Packers-level shitty I still think that's enough to win the game as long as we don't fuck ourselves with penalties and turnovers.
I just hope the defense continues to improve, even if it's slightly, and avoids turning into a pumpkin against a mediocre opponent.
Especially after coming back from down 17 yesterday, it's not easy to maintain that type of focus two weeks in a row.
Basically the only thing that'll stop us from winning is if we completely shit the bed with turnovers and penalties, as long as the defense doesn't relapse back to week 2.
Random Thoughts:
-We have the best WR group in the league. I don't think Lamb/Pickens are the best duo, they're probably top 3, but when you consider the depth with guys like Turpin who made a bunch of big plays against the Packers, Flournoy today, Tolbert and even Mingo when he's back, I don't...
Yep, this is what we've been saying for years, even when we were really productive (i.e. 2021-22 with Moore) the scheme was always unimaginative and struggled to overcome injuries/missing players.
Yea but it's something I've been thinking throughout the early part of the year, they just rolled up the Packers last week who were statistically one of the best (maybe the best) defenses in the league before our game. And without Lamb, Beebe and Booker.
The only reason I think today solidified...
