I fully believe Quinn and the defensive coaches wanted him to slim down and become quicker to "fit their scheme better." Luckily I think Zimmer has more of an appreciation for a big old fat dude who can sit in there and stop the run and just push the pocket.
DQ wanted him to rush the passer.

Yeah I mean I think Zimmer has made reference to wanting to turn him back into a NT. That tells me someone in Dallas was trying to make him something different than a NT. Aka Quinn.
But, why? He just wasted his rookie season, and made it pretty much a burst.

He is just going quietly. Maybe another team will hire him after this season.
I mean what he says and what he believes are two different things. No coach is going to come out and say, I don't like my receiver Corp beyond the top 2 guys. And my RBs are shit. And oh hey, I sure wish I had more guys to count on at DT.

To say that would be a slap in the face to the guys on the roster. But behind the scenes I'd be telling Stephen or whoever that I need a damn RB, a DT and yeah maybe another WR. And in the meantime you try to get Jalen Tolbert and Jalen Brooks to make the next steps. You get Mazi an all you can eat pass at every restaurant. And you get Zeke hooked up with a good roids supplier.

They aren't going to say that for sure but he didn't have to add the last part. There is no team that doesn't need something.

Honestly, even if Guyton and Beebe have good/great rookie years, this is still an OL with two rookie starters prone to mistakes, an emerging superstar, a fading superstar, and a guy we hope makes a big second year jump back from injury.

A good RB might have a hard time running behind that kind of OL, much less the bums we have.

Whiffing at RB during FA and the draft will prove to be a season killing mistake imo.

Wrong.

If the OL picks hit we'll have an average to slightly above average running game, if they hit and we had something resembling a legit starting RB we'd have a very good to elite running game.
That's the thing. If we just had an average young back with fresh legs I might agree. But we don't even have that. I'm fully support the concept that you don't need a franchise RB to have a great running game. But these chucklefucks take it too far.

No you cant
Can you confidently say that Dowdle, Deuce, and the other spare parts are better RBs than Zeke?

I can't.

Dowdle is in his prime and was still pretty ordinary. Plus there's a long history of backup RBs who performed worse once they were elevated to the RB1 position and became the focus of defensive game plans. The two immediate examples that come to my mind are Tony Pollard and Troy Hambrick. Both looked much better in backup roles but as soon as the lead RB load was heaped on their shoulders both of them performed much worse than they did in previous seasons.

Don't confuse this as me celebrating the return of Zeke. I'm just highlighting the overall lack of talent Dallas has at RB.
