This is straight from Jerry's mouth and is exactly what some of us have been saying the last few weeks. They're basically sacrificing 2024 to try to set themselves up with a better cap situation from 2025 onward:

We have huge amounts of money that hit our cap for dollars we’ve spent on players for either a period of time when they played or the player himself that won’t be here in the future. We won’t be getting an ounce out of them in 2024.”

I mean it would be great if this was so they could spend money over the next 5 years. It's not. We will get this same song and dance every offseason. It's how this game works.
Freeing up 20 mil this year can just be passed to 2025 anyway. That's what happens when you don't use all your cap anyway.

I do think the coaches were really excited about him last year. He has had a ton of time to rehab since his injury was so early in the year. I'm not going to say I'm excited for him because I really have no idea, but he might be our only real hope from that draft class.
