I mean you do pay replacement level players. It's just what you pay them. A replacement level O-lineman still has a cost. But you don't pay a replacement level O-lineman 8 mil a season either. But unless you can draft a better replacement there is just sort of a cost to anyone you sign who is capable of starting in the NFL.

No that's what teams who manage the cap poorly do.

If we plugged in Farniok instead of McGovern I doubt we'd see much difference.

I'm not paying a guy like McGovern 4-7 million a year to be a part time player. Which like it or not is their plan.

You think he’s gonna shoot the moon in FA?

No but it might be more than people seem to think. Connor Williams got 7 million per last season. It wouldn't surprise me if McGovern got a similar deal.

Who do you plan on starting at LG? The Farns?

No. Tyler Smith. And I think that's their plan also.

If I thought McGovern would be the full time starter that might be different.
In my mind, if we re-sign him it's with the idea that he's going to be the full-time starter as soon as Tyron is done for good, which could obviously be any day now.

If we knew we could more or less count on Tyron for the next 2-3 years I'd be fine letting him go, but we all know damn good and well that this guy could be done at any moment.

I agree with him. Williams because he was raw, developed and looked great even as a raw guy. Bland because he will actually have a defined role. No more slot and outside and back and forth. The guy can have a legit starting position and perfect it.

I'm a big fan of both of these quotes.... And he's absolutely right on both.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how the offense looks under McCarthy next season.
The only part that bugs me is that it sounds ultra conservative. The success will be based on our ability to upgrade the OL depth and get a starter quality skill position player.

He also said that you need to be able to score 40 here and there if you want to win it all, so I think he knows you have to be explosive also.
