I bet youre excited to see the coming game. Deep down inside, your inner child is feeling like Christmas morning and the Red Rider BB Gun is sitting there under the tree waiting for you.
I'm kinda dreading it, actually.

I've been preconditioned to failure the last 25 years.

I can't really enjoy it.

Yeah, on one hand, playoff wins are few and far between these days. It's nice.

But once you have that big goose egg hanging up there in front of you in relation to Super Bowl wins for 30 years, or hell even Championship game wins/appearances, the wild card games don't mean quite as much.
If you can't derive some level of enjoyment out of this team right now then there's no point to being a fan really.

Whatever mystique the Cowboys had 20-30 years ago isn't relevant anymore and never will be again because the league actively works against teams having consistent success. The league, by design, is meant to generate extreme turnover every year with teams constantly shuffling back and forth in the standings.

The Rams won the Super Bowl, now they're giving a top 5 pick to the Lions while McVay seems on his way out in the next year or so. They might have one more run in them but they're going to be a doormat in the very near future.

It's called "not for long" for a reason. You have one outlier in the Patriots because they happened to fall into having the GOAT HC and the GOAT QB aligned for 20 years but that sort of success will never happen again.

It's difficult for Cowboys fans because the organization had a bunch of success and was viewed as the gold standard of the league and now they haven't done shit in 25 years. It's bad but it's not a complete outlier with the way the league operates.

That history also doesn't mean much of anything for this specific team, players and coaches, outside of Jerry/Stephen. What this team has shown over the past 2 years provides plenty of reasons to be optimistic, it doesn't guarantee anything and it's likely it won't result in a Super Bowl, but we're in a better position than at least 25 of the other 32 teams in the league right now.

This won't be a popular opinion but I'd float Diggs' name out there in trade talks after the season. I'm not really interested in paying him a mega contract when he mails in all the physicality. And yes he has ball skills and had an amazing season last year, but, uh, Daron Bland had like 5 INTs this year. It might be partially due to Dan Quinn. And if Quinn departs you might not ever see Diggs approach double digit interceptions again. And if Quinn doesn't depart, I can get 5-6 picks out of mid round rookies.
I seriously doubt they would trade him, but overall I agree. Unless he had some bad shoulder injury or something he was protecting, that was unacceptable last night. If that was just about protecting a big contract coming up, that is not tolerable. You're basically saying everyone else can tackle but I don't have to. That playing with 10 against 11 (vs the run) is fine. It's not.

Maybe we do find out that Diggs hurt a shoulder or arm or something in practice. I really hope we do.

And FWIW, my Bland love only grows. He tackles like a safety out there. That's a football player, not just a "cover corner."

Exactly. What are some going to do, say I won't allow myself to be happy until the final gun goes off at the Superbowl and we've won? But nothing until then? I don't understand that. It's football. It's the shortest season and fewest number of games of any major pro sport. The team played to its potential and beat the GOAT who was mocking them. Some need to release the cynicism for a few days and enjoy it.

As a Cowboys fan, you have got to take the wins and celebrate them when you can. But, these beaten wives can't do that. Which I guess I can understand to a degree, but fuck I'm enjoying this one today.

Yeah, there's zero percent chance we would trade Diggs. Jerry is already backing up the brinks truck.

But I wouldn't be eager to pay this player.

Like, what if Detroit is willing to give you 18 and a second next year for him?

I'll sign a much cheaper CB in free agency. What if I could get, like, Da'Ron Payne from Washington to help at DL, and CB Cam Sutton from Pittsburgh or something, for the same price?

Come on, man...you've gotta enjoy it just a bit.
