EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Bruce Carter contributed seven tackles. Wth Sean Lee sidelined with a hamstring injury, he also made the defensive calls. But the lasting image from Carter’s day was what he didn’t do.

On a 27-yard touchdown pass from Giants quarterback Eli Manning to tight end Brandon Myers in the third quarter, Carter had a mental lapse. As Myers fell to the turf, Carter didn’t bother to touch him. Neither did safety Jeff Heath, who was in the vicinity. Myers got back up and ran into the end zone. The touchdown made the score 21-13, and reduced the Giants’ deficit to eight points.

“I thought he landed out of bounds so that’s why I kind of stopped on the play,” Carter said.

Head coach Jason Garrett talked to Carter and Heath after his gaffe, offering them words of encouragement.

“My message to them when they came off was this: ‘It was a bad play. It’s done. We are going to need you guys as we keep going,’” Garret said. “I thought they responded well.”

That's some Wade Phillips garbage. Both of those players needed to be destroyed. Send a message that amateurish mistakes like that won't be tolerated.

Way too much coddling goes on in Dallas. This defense makes tons of mistakes every game and instead of kicking the players in the ass to get their attention, they're patting them on the backside letting them know everything is going to be okay.

Eh, Carter is your last healthy starting LB and the only reason Heath is on the field at all is because you have nobody else, so you really can't bench them. Dez screwed the pooch twice in that game, and all anybody was trying to do was get him to focus on the next play. Worked out ok.

Yeah. People think that any time you don't Bill Parcells rip a player anymore, it's coddling.

No, coddling is telling the players loss after loss that they are great and don't need to get better. This isn't telling them they are great, it's telling them that it's over and they need to focus.

And actually other than that play, Bruce Carter did have a very good game.

Then again, Romo reamed Bryant a new one after that last fumble and Bryant responded really well on the final drive.

I think it was handled properly...they both clearly knew after they made a mistake. Rip them too much at that time and you have them thinking about that play and not the next.

I didn't say anything about benching them.

I just wanted to see the coaches light into them rather than pat them on the butt and move on to the next play.

You got no passion, Garrett.

He should have met them at the sideline to tear into them. Instead he made sure no one could ridicule them by assuring the losers that everything would be ok.

Take your tit out of their mouths, dumbass...they're football players.

I don't have much faith that the mistakes will be corrected. How can you get better when you're not reprimanded for doing wrong?

Or you have a player on top of his game because he wants to make it up to his coach.

But yeah, the tit-to-mouth approach might work, too.

That was big to me in wo ways...one, Bryant took it like a man and responded. More importantly though...Romo showed that he is a guy Bryant respects enough to take that jawing from. Bryant is a big personality and is not just going to take that from anyone.

It was acknowledged that it was a bad play...move on to the next one.

I waited on Marinelli to have an aneurysm over that play.

I am pretty happy overall with the way the Cowboys played....Tony was pimping on that last drive. That's what you expect from a top rated QB...no complaints from me on the game.

It was a stunningly egregious play that shouldn't happen. Ever. I don't care if he "thought" he was out of bounds, you always have to just make sure. There's no downside to just touching the guy to make sure.

Don't make this about "everyone always thinks." It's about this one specific instance where two different guys made the same mistake that no one should make. So yeah, I think this such an inexcusable error that warranted getting in a guys face a bit. It's not just about those two guys; you are sending a message to the entire team to stop being stupid.

Yes...to the next bad play.

Garrett must have been pissed about the play. Why put your emotions totally in check? Let the players know you're pissed. Don't lie and say, "it's ok...make the next play, guy!" Show some frikkin emotion and let them know when they play like retards.

If the Cowboys weren't so horrid on defense week after week, I wouldn't make a big deal out of this.

But when the defense is setting records on damn near a weekly basis I'd like to see the coaches finally snap and take an "enough is enough" approach instead of the "we'll get them next time approach".

There is another side of that coin...when Coughlin lost his composure the Giants did as well. You have to pick your spots...like he did when he sat down Murray for fumbling and benching Carter before.

Thank you. This is the point I'm trying to make.

I'm not looking at that play as an isolated incident. I group that play in with the piss poor performances we've gotten from this defense for the bulk of the year.

Fine, I just think showing some passion in the game might stir up something similar in the players.

I want Garrett gone too, but asking him to show emotion is like asking Schmitty to get laid...neither have the stomach for it.
