I honestly don't know what to make of Gilbert.

We've seen him play a regular season game and perform decent for a backup, all things considered.

We've never seen that from Rush one way or another.

To me, that means Rush should have had to clearly beat out Gilbert. That didn't happen - at best it was a push.

I just don't understand what they're looking at. Shouldn't they lean towards the guy who we've seen actually do it for real?

Totally agree. I thought some people got way too high on Gilbert based on that one Steelers game. But then everyone got way too down on him based on one quarter of a preseason game. Why is that? And before that preseason game, it seemed like Gilbert was the clear favorite of the two. Makes no sense.

I think they both suck so I'm not too worked up about it either way, but it was a weird sequence of events.

That's the best way to put it I think. Rush passing Gilbert seemed to just come out of nowhere and based on a very narrow sequence of playtime.

And I agree that it'd be best if the backup ultimately is someone other than either of them. I don't think Grier is that guy but I guess we'll see.

The Rush/Gilbert decision had to come down to a practice/classroom decision. Maybe Gilbert just wasn’t showing anything there. Who knows? But like was said, they’re both subpar. Not a big loss either way.
